WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Gunfire investigation in North Delridge

11:35 AM: Police are converging on 25th/Dakota [vicinity map] for a gunfire investigation. Dispatch says two people were reported to be shooting at each other, one on foot, one in a vehicle. No injuries reported so far.

11:37 AM: The vehicle is described as a gray Kia Sorento; the shooter on foot is described only as Black, male, black shirt, red pants, seen running south on Dakota.

11:40 AM: Police report that they’ve detained one possible suspect. They’re also closing off Dakota at Delridge.

11:53 AM: If you see/hear a helicopter, Guardian One was just getting its day started and was going to head this way to help with the search. Police meantime are checking out leads that other possible suspects might be linked to residence(s) nearby. Still no report of any injuries.

1:01 PM: Police are still on the scene, between Delridge and 25th. They slso have a report of bullet damage at a nearby apartment building.

5:31 PM: We obtained a little more information from police at day’s end. The person they detained was arrested and was to be booked into King County Jail for investigation of assault; they believe he was the person involved in the shootout who was “on foot” while the other got away in a car.

Thanks for the update. I logged on just after I heard shots and you were there with news. Really appreciate it.

  • Jc June 3, 2025 (12:00 pm)

I live in apartments there, and I heard the shots. It was weird. It sounded like someone was beating on the metal siding of our building from the way. It echoed. Quick response to the area of officers.

  • Flora June 3, 2025 (12:00 pm)

Yes it is a block from my house and the gun shots were startling (as usual) but so close. Close to the park where kids are playing.thanks for the updates

  • ltmmgm June 3, 2025 (12:01 pm)

When is this ever going to stop?! YES this is just a gut reaction comment because I know there is no answer. All these shootings are just so very wrong and it is wonder that others haven’t been shot in the cross-fire.

    • Seattlite June 3, 2025 (12:34 pm)

LTMMGM…It is 100% unacceptable in a civilized society.   You ask, ‘When is this ever going to stop?!”   That question needs to be asked and answered  by Seattle’s leadership.  In my opinion, every Seattleite should be extremely concerned.

      • Derek June 3, 2025 (1:58 pm)

Yeah expecting Seattle policy makers to fix a country-wide problem is silly. I despise Saka but what council even do? Stop making it easy for kids to join gangs, you do that because you make it really hard for kids to afford college and housing. Fix the wealth gaps!!!!

        • WSDAD June 3, 2025 (3:12 pm)

Teaching kids right versus wrong is free. Starts with parenting and it ends with a functioning judicial system. We can’t use the Seattle soft approach when it comes to gun crime. People who use guns to attack, rob or victimize need harsh punishments.

        • Looking for common ground June 4, 2025 (7:39 am)

Derek-sincere question, you repeatedly claim that wealth inequality and poverty are the underlying causes here.  I happen to disagree, but I’ll cede the point for the sake of discussion.  If you’re right, then what is your suggestion for what people should do right now, while they also take action to end poverty?  Should they 1) accept that they may be shot until poverty is ended?2) Let the shooters roam free?3) or what?I am honestly confused by what your point even means as a practical matter. If the cause is a fundamental element of our society, are you saying that we deserve to be shot at and should just accept it?  Or what.  I’d like to think that even if we disagree on the causes of behavior that we could at least agree that certain behaviors are unacceptable, which is why I’m asking. Thanks!

          • Derek June 4, 2025 (7:33 pm)

What you can do right now? Tax the wealthy and immediately start putting it in neighborhoods suffering gang violence. Pass laws. Now. Don’t wait. We literally can tax Amazon. They won’t leave, they need our labor too much and won’t let high rises sit empty. Make transit free. Capital gains taxes. No one is saying accept being shot but make a splash policy change that flips wealth from the ultra wealthy areas and puts it in these neighborhoods. Guarantee you’ll see a dip in crime because crime by definition and data correlates with poverty.

    • walkerws June 3, 2025 (1:35 pm)

When is this ever going to stop? When we as a nation stop cowering to gun fetishism and repeal the second amendment (which, sadly, means never).

      • Dog Whisperer June 3, 2025 (2:37 pm)

Do you think 15 year old kids are aligning their recreational choices with the second amendment? WHERE IS HIS DAD WHEN WE NEED HIM?

        • k June 3, 2025 (3:55 pm)

Probably in prison for being poor or having a substance use disorder.

      • Chuck Jacobs June 3, 2025 (3:08 pm)

We as a nation once  passed a constitutional amendment outlawing booze. Do you remember how that worked out?Narcotics are still outlawed. Does that prevent anyone from abusing them?
If you want to solve a problem,  you must address the cause, not ban the tools people use to try and solve It themselves.

        • Derek June 3, 2025 (6:38 pm)

That cause? Economics. Again, UBI needed. Make housing, food, and healthcare 70% cheaper.

          • Rhonda June 3, 2025 (7:43 pm)

The cause of gang violence is the greed and gluttony of the drug trade, Derek.

          • Derek June 3, 2025 (9:53 pm)

Rhonda, no. That’s the effect. Without poverty there’s no need to do those things. Lack of education access, lack of family stability, lack of healthcare access all contribute to this. Community disruption like gentrification and systemic racism (Delridge is prime example, much like Columbia City and CD) is another factor. Every capitalist society has black markets. It’s a feature not bug.

          • Hillary June 4, 2025 (6:59 am)

Derek, are you in social work? You sound like someone who is actually educated about this matter. It is too bad that this “progressive” state and city won’t tax the wealthy via an income tax. That money could solve a lot of problems and would be the first non regressive tax structure that I know of in the state! It’s easier for people to blame kids than to acknowledge that they themselves are part of the problem with their abhorrent economic views.

          • ltmmgm June 4, 2025 (9:51 am)

@Derek, You (always) mention “wage-gap” tell me what exactly would change if everyone in this world their earnings were the same amount, tell me how this would change anything? Would it be like the Leave it to Beaver show, would all the drug dealers and gangs just disappear?

          • Derek June 4, 2025 (7:38 pm)

What territory and market would they benefit from if they had more wealth? I mean why is there no gang violence in Magnolia or richer areas? They don’t have those problems I mentioned. So flip the script and try it.  if kids got stability and affordable housing and healthcare and food, why would they want to join a gang?

  • Keyah June 3, 2025 (12:03 pm)

Thank you so much for the update! I’m working from home and heard one pop and then back and forth popping that sounded like gunfire! Brought my sunbathing doggos inside asap since we heard a car speed off after!

  • Local June 3, 2025 (12:15 pm)

    Thank you WSB 🙏🏼

  • DrugFreeDelridge June 3, 2025 (12:31 pm)

I theroize dealers are fighting for the area even before the light rail construction starts. And when they build the rail station the security will only guard the station and all the suround side streets (us ) will see the end results.

    • Derek June 3, 2025 (2:25 pm)

I would argue against this theory. Lightrail has nothing to do with a gang problem that has been in the area since the 70s. We did not see gang problems spike in other lightrail stop communities. Territory disputes are usually linked to gentrification and wealth gaps, along with resources and control of a demographic.

    • Foop June 3, 2025 (2:48 pm)

      Wow.

      • Hillary June 4, 2025 (6:32 am)

Delridge used to be considered much LESS safe decades ago.

  • Christine June 3, 2025 (1:03 pm)

Lockdown lifted. We haven’t heard anything other than the scene is clear and we can go back to work.

  • S June 3, 2025 (1:06 pm)

Would be good to know if they are local or were there for some other reason.

  • Deldridgite June 3, 2025 (1:06 pm)

This menace needs to be behind bars for the rest of his life.

  • Jay June 3, 2025 (2:02 pm)

Do the cops ever release details? Was the shooter West Side Street Mobb, given the location and red clothes? It would be nice to get a better picture of the factors driving gang violence in our neighborhood. It’s frustrating hearing gunfire all the time without knowing why or any of the background details. What can we do as residents to address gang violence? Gang violence has been happening here forever and it feels like something that people of our community need to address, not something that can be solved by police responses. The anonymity that the gangs enjoy seems to be extremely enabling.

    • WSB June 3, 2025 (2:09 pm)

No idea if it had anything to do with gangs. If you have questions, one good place to try asking would be tonight’s community meeting (6:30 pm at Neighborhood House). It includes local police leadership plus a panel with the city council president, city attorney, and the mayor’s chief public-safety officer – TR

      • IMHO June 3, 2025 (5:20 pm)

        Excellent suggestion!!!

  • Neighbor June 3, 2025 (4:47 pm)

Any update? Last report was police had one potential suspect.

  • Polski June 4, 2025 (6:55 am)

To the people blaming drugs or gangs, you are incorrect.  I live in this neighborhood and it’s an ongoing DV situation, where a man keeps harassing and attacking his ex but they are foreign and she is or has been unwilling in the past to identify/charge him.  This is the 3-4th act of threats or violence in the neighborhood committed by this same person over the last few years.  The second shooter was another family member retaliating to the initial attack, from what I’ve heard
