WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Planters destroyed

Thanks to Blair for the tip. This was the scene outside Bang Bar Thai Restaurant in The Junction this morning – its planters were broken into pieces across the doorway. Nobody was around when we went by for the photo so we don’t have additional details yet.

Were there any cameras that could help identity who did this vandalism?  Too bad business owners cannot even have decorative planters in front of their businesses without the threat of them being vandalized.  The psychology of vandals is multi-layered with the bottom line being they have no conscience about destroying others’ properties.

First the Camp Long Lodge was set on fire, then the community tree was massacred. Now flower planters are  deliberately broken. These things cost money and enhance our community. These acts are so senseless. The wanton destruction of property is sickening.

Has the individual who was pounding on windows days ago been released and/or the other who smashed Easy Street’s window?

      Both still in.

I saw the tree trimmer guy Thanksgiving evening about 3:30, dragging his trashcan and tools at the Alaska Junction.

The perpetrator must have mental issues, but our society seems ill equipped to deal with these issues short of locking people in jail — which is like putting a band aid on cancer.Too bad they vented their frustrations on attractive planters rather than the ramshackle outdoor dining sheds that litter the Junction. If we’re focusing on beautifying our public spaces I’d at least like to see zoning ordnances that require more attractive dining sheds.

I saw them about midnight on the street. Wanted to send to blog. Did not know how

Thanks Rob and Bruce for cleaning up downtown!  You have really solved the problem of the unhoused. So glad we have these guys focused on the real issues that threaten our community (like evil walls that prevent unsafe left turns and allow for the safe and efficient flow of transit or those mean softball fields that maybe get muddy in the winter but don’t cause cancer or injuries but hey one guys kid will get to practice in January without getting dirty! You know real important stuff for all of us and nothing trite!) rather than petty nonsense like outlying small business security, actual transportation infrastructure improvements, maintaining and protecting parks and its structures. But hey, they increased the pay for police so we are all safer now.

Josh should run for office since he knows how to solve our transportation and social problems.

Josh, sarcasm doesn’t land in comments. Just be direct.

The night before the same person tipped over the garbage cans. It happens before 4 am because I was up in the junction both mornings by then and saw this.

The windows to our lobby (California and Dakota) were knocked out last night. Not sure if it’s related.

There was an interesting article in the Guardian a while back indicating that civilization is in decline and headed toward collapse.  You can see it everywhere, really, from the recent election to what we’re seeing on our streets.  This kind of wanton destruction is just a small sample.
