TRAFFIC ALERT: Lane closures on high bridge

Announced today by SDOT, once the work was under way:

In addition to the [upcoming] work on the low bridge, the West Seattle Bridge high bridge will conduct preventative maintenance from October 4 through Tuesday, October 10. This work will include a single right lane closure westbound starting at 6:00 AM and eastbound starting at 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM.

Really – SDOT cannot coordinate bridge repairs not to take place at the exact same time?  This is nonsense and I hope our council members get stuck in the pending traffic too.

It is after the rush hour,  and it does sound like it is coordinated already. Can’t please everyone all the time.

Why the F can’t they do the work at night??? OMG!!!

It would cost more to do this work at night. Additional lights, you got to pay the workers, could be over time. Does one lane closed in off peak times, really that big of a deal.

While I wish they could have timed it better, let them do all the necessary preventative maintenance on the bridge whenever necessary to avoid another multiyear closure. Remember how bad that was?

    LOL. This city.

Maybe they’ll finally finish painting the lines that are missing…

WSB, do you know when WSDOT plans to fix the ramp from the bridge to NB 5? The roadway is prime for holes developing like the onramp to the bridge from 99 had. It’s down to the rebar…

The way SDOT set up this closure on the westbound portion of the West Seattle Bridge is shockingly dangerous.  The right lane closure feels like 80 feet after the 99S on ramp connects to the bridge.  With people getting on the WSB from that curved onramp, going 25/30 mph, immediately merging with westbound drivers already on the WSB going 50/ 55mph…. it’s a recipe for an accident.  Barely any time to check over your left shoulder (after you get past the concrete barrier edge) to see if it safe to merge.  Hopefully they change it?

Sorry, comment time is over.
