Uggg. So sorry to hear this Michael. We’ll keep our eyes open here in Alki area. WSB: What happens to the majority of cars that have been stolen? Are they recovered from a “joy ride” or are they sold for parts? Fingers crossed for you Michael.

More are recovered than not recovered (I don’t have the exact stat); police say most are used by criminals to get from crime scene A to crime scene B, where they may steal another one (or a bicycle) …

Warning for those that get their vehicles back drivable. Clean ’em good. The thieves can and do leave drug paraphernalia, drug residue and who knows what else.

That is exactly what happened to my neighbor’s stolen vehicle which was found in that condition along with other “items”.

Unfortunately if Meth or Fetanyl  were smoked in the car, the residue can’t simply be removed and cleaned by nonprofessionals.  If not properly cleaned, you can mistakenly end up moving the residue from one area of the vehicle to another.  Detailing won’t fix this problem. Without proper cleaning by a certified professional who specialized in drug residue clean up, smoke residue more likely than not is left in carpets, headliners, vent system, seats, and even nonporous surfaces (dash, etc).  Exposure can lead to many adverse health effects, neurological etc, and can be especially dangerous for children and pets. Only a professional decontamination company can remediate and even then there may be acceptable levels of residue left after cleaning and testing.

I just saw the vehicle driving by Sanislo Elementary. Called the police and gave them details. Hopefully you’ll get your truck back if police get to them in time.

I heard that dispatch – interestingly first they found a parked white pickup, similar, on Puget Ridge, that wasn’t this one; then this one was sighted on Harbor. Don’t know how it turned out; thanks for calling it in!

Sorry, comment time is over.
