Police are investigating an armed robbery at the 35th/Barton 7-11. Few details but the robber has been described over emergency radio as Black, male, 6′ tall, in a black hat, black hoodie, and blue jeans, armed with a handgun. He was last seen running northbound on 35th. This comes just one day after the nearby Lucky 5 was held up at nid-afternoon Friday.
Lots of police cars, with sirens blazing, just flew past heading south on 35th! Thanks for keeping us in the loop!
Shortly after the robbery call, there was a police and fire response for what was described by dispatch as a possible overdose, just a few blocks away, so that might be what you heard.
I heard the gun shot as well, just got out of my truck after coming home in High Point, and it came from same direction as all the sirens I heard (towards the south in the direction of 7/11. One shot, nothing else. The time was 11:50 or so, I know cuz I looked at my phone after a cpl mins and it was 1153, I found this story which was posted at 1142. So the shot was def at least several mins after the robbery
I just stopped by the 7-11 to see how they’re doing. They seem to be doing alright now, but I imagine it was a pretty stressful situation while they were being held up at gun point! They described the armed robber, what he was wearing (listed above), and that he was sporting a pair of bright red trainers. That detail wasn’t listed in the above post, so I thought it might be useful to add that detail here. The thief looked to be younger than 35 years old, and had a slender physique. The employees at the gas station have a video of the perpetrator, but I’m not sure if it’s been posted anywhere. I imagine it would be helpful for other convenience store employees to have a better idea of who this person is, so they can call 9-11 as soon as they see him approaching the doors of their businesses. This way, SPD might actually be able to arrive in time to catch the guy!
