Door-to-door alert from just south of The Junction

Misty wanted to share word of an apparent solicitor in her area within the past hour – read on to see what she wrote:

At about 7:15 tonight, my neighbor and I were outside on the corner of 42nd Ave SW and Hudson. A well-dressed Asian man was going door-to-door asking people about purchasing internet. We overheard him at the house nearest us on the corner. Upon being told no thanks, he left that house and continued on his way up the block. I hollered out to him to skip the next three homes (the one in the middle being mine, elderly neighbors on the one side and a neighbor that wasn’t home on the other–not that I told him this information). He looked at me, skipped the first home, and then proceeded up my steps. The neighbor who was talking with me had to holler down the block to get this man to leave my property. I tried to call out, but my voice didn’t carry as well. He hollered back to calm down and proceeded down the block. I live on the 5000 block of 42nd Ave SW.

Remember that solicitors have to carry IDs and a license to sell door-to-door, and that if you have a “no soliciting” sign, they’re supposed to avoid your home; the full city rules are here.

Yes, calming down was probably a good idea.

Uhm…sounds like Misty is over-reacting. IMHO. Why hassle the guy when he’s just trying to make an honest living? There’s a way to politely decline, without yelling at a guy as he’s approaching OTHER PEOPLE’s houses.

You may think I was overreacting, but seeing SO MANY recent incidents of casing, I feel I was justified. I did not yell at him so much as to him. As for protecting my neighbors, that is the neighborly thing to do! People in their 90s that can barely move don’t need to be answering the door to strange men. I’ve been asked to help look out for them, which is exactly what I was doing.

Is 7pm on a weeknight a normal time to be making sales calls? A “No Soliciting” might help in the future.

As a note, it’s already been announced that the Census folks will be going door-to-door (although I don’t recall the timeframe).
    .
I’m sure they’ll be identifiable, but it might be nice to at least ask people approaching you/neighbors’ houses what company they’re from before shoo’ing them away.
    .
    Just sayin’.

Purchasing internet, how much is it? lol.

Sorry, comment time is over.
