1st CoolMom movie night a sold-out success, another planned

That’s the trailer from “Arctic Tale,” the movie that’ll be featured April 17th in the second CoolMom.org Family Movie Night at Camp Long; the first one, held tonight, was a roaring success. Why mention the next one so early, you ask? The answer ahead – plus a campaign that CoolMom is involved with now, to get a message to the new Mom in the White House

The first one — at Camp Long tonight — was a sold-out success, with 75 people in the lodge, some in their PJs. The lights were already down and movie-watching was already under way when we stopped by, so we asked CoolMom’s West Seattle leader Abby Suplizio to talk with us for a minute in the lobby about the big event and what’s next:

Watch the Camp Long website for the spring brochure, which’ll have sign-up info regarding the April 17th movie night. You can also call CL for info at (206) 684-7434.

CoolMom also is inviting families right now to write letters to the new Mom in the White House, First Lady Michelle Obama, to express concern about climate change. They’re collecting letters (you can even send one online) for two more weeks – go here to find out how to be part of it.

Lets hope these Cool Moms don’t actually buy into the contrived hype that global warming is caused by humans. Real science that considers data gathered over centuries proves that the earth naturally warms and cools.

Yes, they do buy into the idea that humans are greatly responsible for global climate change. That’s part of the premise of the group. The global scientific community agrees that the current atmospheric conditions and climate change effects we are seeing far exceed any that have ever occurred naturally. Pretending humans aren’t responsible for these changes is so 20th Century…

With all due respect to anon @ 5:57 am, global warming is both a natural phenomenon and human caused as well. Yes, “anon,” we all agree that the earth experiences natural cycles of warming and cooling, both with and without human activity. But during the last several dozen decades or so we’ve seen truly incontovertible evidence that human activity is causing an unprecedented acceleration in global warming. It isn’t “contrived hype” to recognize this, it is an inescapable truth. I think if you were to be forced to confront the “real science,” you would have no choice but to agree. But “anon,” I mea no disrespect, and I believe we all need to openly discuss our views frankly, and exchange and debate without stigma. While I vigorously disagree with your position, than you for speaking it.
