Sorry for the slowness

We thought it was just happening as we tried to add content to the site … but now we’re getting e-mail from WSB readers about difficulty getting to the site or going page to page. Please forgive us; we’re on the phone right now with the hosting company trying to figure out what the problem is.

If it helps, I’m not experiencing any of the problems listed above. That said, if others are, you might want to check with your internet service provider as well. Best of luck!

I was wondering what was going on. I wasn’t able to get onto the site at all for about 12 hours (approx. 9pm to 9am). Kept getting a message that either I lost my connection or the site was down (and I was able to get into other sites, so I don’t think it was on my end, plus it was happening both at home and at work). I never realized how important this site was to me until I couldn’t get into it. :)

Keep us posted on any problems, anyone and everyone who can … we have spent a large portion of the day on the phone with our hosting service and our ISP and no one so far seems to be able to say “a-HA, found the problem” … it’s like taking the car to the mechanic, they take it for a test drive and it works fine, then you drive it out of the parking lot and boom! it breaks again.

I’ve been having problems reading comments…they take forever to open up. And posting a comment is sometimes not possible. I even tried using another browser, and the same thing happened…you just wait and wait. We would like to think that it’s because you’re so popular and getting so many hits that the server is just overwhelmed :)

Jan, I’m having the same issue with comments. I can get into the site just fine, but sometimes I cannot get into any comments at all. At least as of last night. This was the first comment I tried to get into today and it was fine, so hopefully it’s running better today.

I have had the same problem as Jan and Sue. It seems to be working OK right now – but still slower than normal.

I often have the same problem as above, but it seems fine today. Thanks for the fix!

viewing comments also a problem here. On a T1 line at work, and cable at home, so two vastly different connect methods both having issued. Comments take ages to come up, if at all – not found error or “site lost connection” or “server is busy, try again”

In addition, clicking the RSS feed or category links on the right side doesn’t even pull up an error page. It’s as if I didn’t click on anything at all. I don’t know if that’s helpful in the troubleshooting. It’s still happening today. Usually if I wait a few minutes, it gets better. A few minutes later, problem will reappear. Seems to be a traffic issue. I suspect if the hosting company were to monitor traffic/bandwidth for a bit, they’d see some maxing out happening.

Friday 6:30 pm on June 22, still happening.

Apologies again; it’s rather alarming that our Large Major Mega-Company Hosting Service can’t figure out what’s wrong here. We’re going to give them another day at the most and then look at taking our business elsewhere … (if we can even get into the back end to move the database!) …

  • Sue June 22, 2007 (9:34 pm)

No apologizes necessary, WSB – I don’t think anyone here is complaining as much as trying to let you know what’s going on on our end so you can troubleshoot. Hope you’re successful in getting it figured out and/or moved elsewhere!

Ditto Sue – and all seems to be back to normal on my end.
