Ilovedogs123ParticipantParking in the Avalon Neighborhood is scarce due to so many condo’s and apartments. A new neighbor has decided to park her vehicle in the space which is NOT in front of her residence, but instead parks in front of the next door neighbor’s home, leaving space in front of her home open for friends and visitors. There are spots for 2 cars, per residence on the street, in this quant neighborhood. It has been a common courtesy (for the 20 years I have been here)that each family member park in front of their home whenever possible. When a car takes a spot in a neighbors normal area, then that resident must take a spot of a neighbor and the Domino effect happens and it is a mess. All due to one inconsiderate person. Maybe you came from an apartment living arrangement, and don’t know about common neighborly etiquette. Please park in front of your own home. Don’t take someone else’s spot just cause it’s open.

NorthbyNorthWestParticipantUmmmmmmm, the parking spot in front of your house on the public street is not your private spot. This has nothing to do with neighborly etiquette, it’s not yours. Congestion is going to get worse here, not better, recommend ditching the small town mentality. If for nothing else, ditch it for your own sanity…

ChemistParticipantThe way you get a reserved parking spot at home is to build a driveway or garage on your own property.

AJPParticipantBAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Good one!

seaopgalParticipantPlease speak to her (if you haven’t already). She might not understand the historic dynamic or how much this bothers you. But as others have pointed out, she’s really not doing anything wrong. You are actually pretty lucky to live in a neighborhood where there are 2 available spots per house.

R0b0ParticipantYes please just talk to your neighbor. Personally I would have really appreciated a note even. Instead one of my neighbors called parking enforcement about our car parked in front of our own house and we got two tickets in two days, each over fifty dollars! Yes it hadn’t moved in a couple of months but it’s not a jalopy and it was in front of our own house!

Does she know that?

BonnieParticipantSo if she leaves the space for her car open for friends can you park there? Or is it a driveway? If that is the case maybe just ask her why she parks on the street and not her own driveway? I know how tight it is on Avalon and it’s only going to get worse around the neighborhoods with all these buildings being built. So sorry you’re having to deal with this.

lazybeardParticipantHave you talked to the person in question? Remember that public parking is open to the public, not reserved for the residence its in front of. If that were the case, parking on Alki would be near non-existent.

skeeterParticipantWe should enjoy the free street parking while we have it. No way will it last much longer as population and density increase. I’m surprised it has lasted this long…
