west seattle golferMemberI hate to break it to you, but my dog can’t read. Sorry you had to waste a couple of bucks.
:)

KenParticipantOne of the signs like that is in range of my security cam.
It is not the dog that has a problem with reading comprehension.
I think I will move my cam a little closer to the sign so I can get some good clear full color video to post of the illiterate dog owners.

AnonymousInactiveSigns are a wonderful way of expressing ourselves and communicating our most closely held personal tenets to the rest of the world.
Lawns are for people that like to mow them. Poop does not react well to the spinning blades of a lawnmower, thus the sign.
However, doesn’t having the no pooping sign arouse contempt in the heart of the beholder and possibly result in an opposite reaction? You’d almost think there would be more poop on a lawn with no pooping signs.

SueParticipantI saw one of those signs recently and burst out laughing – I can’t even imagine posting something like that on my property. Besides, I can’t help but think that if someone is rude enough to let their dog go on your lawn and not clean it up, that a sign isn’t really going to change their mind about what they’re doing.

ImWithGrumpyMemberThis is just absurd. I don’t know about other people’s dogs, but mine can’t read. The little guy poops wherever he wants whenever he needs to. He poops in the road for christ sake. But I am always a few steps behind, bag in hand. If the problem is poop being left in your yard, try addressing the owners and not the dogs in the next sign. You’ll get better results. Atleast some of them can read.

swimcatMemberOnce again, the lack of respect from some dog-owners is showing. Really, if I owned a dog (which I never will because I will likely always own a cat that hates all other animals) and was walking it and it wanted to poop on someone’s lawn with this sign, I’d yank the leash and make the dog do it’s business on the sidewalk or the next lawn up. Humans can hold the urge for a few minutes if necessary, so I’m guessing a dog could do the same?
Maybe this homeowner spent a lot of money fixing up the yard and don’t want poop remnants all over it. Or maybe they have a toddler and they don’t want their child playing where poop has been. WHy can’t you just respect that they don’t want feces on their lawn?

vincentMemberIts funniest because the signs are sold at pet stores and are meant to be tongue and cheek. People buy them and put them up on the public strip in front of their yard, frequently more than one of them.
I would think that the amount of *respect* ( which is such a ridiculous statement in itself these days ) from a dog walker who would *not* scoop, is still probably much higher than all the people who own cats and let them poo all over the neighborhood at will. But I don’t go out and buy signs to put in my yard that say “KEEP YOUR CAT INSIDE A**HOLES”

WesCAddleMemberIt does seem to me more people are letting their dogs poop, and not pick it up lately. I’m not sure why…I’ll blame it on the economy…
I did have to laugh the other day when I actually found a bag of poop on the side of our yard. Who out there actually takes the time to pick up the poop and then discards the bag in the yard after?
Silly humans…

JanSParticipantvincent… that would be “tongue IN cheek” – lol..yeah, it’s Thursday, and I just appointed me the grammar police – hehehehehe…

JanSParticipantbtw, Vincent…I love your doggie picture :)

SEGMemberMy neighbors had the nerve to have that sign in their yard, yet everyday they let there dog out to roam around and poop in all the neighbors yards. So I throw it over the fence back where it belongs.

CrazyDogLadyMemberWe always pick up after our dog. And we always laugh at those signs, just because they look ridiculous. Really, is that improving the look of your yard? Our favorite was a handmade sign that someone on 36th had on a tree for awhile that said NO DOG POOP! I kept meaning to take a photo and never did, alas.
March 20, 2009 at 4:31 pm #661046
NewGuyMemberWell my dog CAN read, and is respectful of these ridiculous signs. He just rolls his eyes and moves on to a hydrant or some other place for more privacy.
March 20, 2009 at 5:07 pm #661047
miwsParticipantSEG, it appears that your neighbor’s dog is one of those literate ones like NewGuy’s.
He/she is simply reading the sign in it’s owner’s yard, and pooping elsewhere (ie: your yard).

Dog Free ParksMemberHi All: Ummm… actually, True Value at the Junction sells the signs… kind of as gross looking as a dog doing it… actually. Not worth the money, really… because, as pointed out above, those rude enough to not be in control of their dogs to that extent, won’t be paying any attention to the sign.
It is more like a sign of protest, which you know, like a peace sign, has symbolism, but maybe, no real effect.
I support the attempt to raise consciousness about rude and mannerly or womannerly behavior.

MousePotatoMemberI changed my avatar just for this thread (at least for a while). I saw this one a few years ago and couldn’t help but snap a shot of it. I cracked up for hours over it….. ;)

KevinParticipantOver in Arbor Heights, there is an individual with a little grave site in their flower bed next to the street, and the “tombstone” reads – “Here lies the remains of the last dog that pooped in my yard.”
March 21, 2009 at 3:33 am #661053
TamsbugMemberWow, that is not nice
March 21, 2009 at 3:41 am #661054
B-squaredParticipantNo, “not nice” is not cleaning up after your dog. beyond “not nice” actually. probably someone who has stepped in crap one too many times. Thanks for the idea, Kevin:)
March 21, 2009 at 3:59 am #661055
grrParticipantnot nice is letting your cat run free to dig up my flowers, crap in MY yard, and scratch the crap out of my convertible top.
of course…a wise man once told me that a little mustard powder in the flower garden does wonders.
grrr. I need more wine.
March 21, 2009 at 4:11 am #661056
B-squaredParticipantpreaching to the choir, grr. my cats are indoor only and always will be. they last longer….
what also work to keep cats from crapping in your yard is planting catnip. they don’t seem to crap where they get high.
