It’s been a few years since I’ve eaten Dim Sum in Seattle. Anybody out there have a favorite place. I’ve heard Noble House in Bellevue is very good, and it used to be Top Gun in the ID, but I think they are closed.

My favorite place is House of Hong in the International district.

I have two places that I favor and I struggle with remembering the names. On Jackson just east of I-5 (and I mean just east) in the Pacific Rim building on the north side of Jackson, is a yummy place. Also, on MLK Jr. Way S, just north of Graham on the east side of MLK Way in a strip mall is another great place. I have been to both of these places during the week at lunch time.

In the I.D. there is Sun Ya, and they have parking, which is a plus in that part of town.

I’m not so much a fan of House of Hong – the food was a tad too greasy. I’ve heard from a lot of people that they used to love it but that it has gone down hill…who knows.

My coworkers love Jade Garden in the I.D. on 7th (I think?). We regularly take the bus tunnel there on our lunch break in droves for the yummy goodness. My very favorite thing is the stuffed sticky rice. OH SO DELICIOUS!!!!!!

I miss King Cafe, it was kind of a hole in the wall (aren’t they all a little bit?) but so yummy.

Purple Dot in Chinatown – new favorite place for Dim Sum. Also, Sun YA is good and the parking thing is nice, but get there early to take advantage of it.

We loved the King Cafe, too. Sad to see it go.

Our favorite place these days is Jumbo in the Rainier Valley. Looks like a dump from the outside, but has very good, old-school dim sum. VERY popular on Sunday mornings, but it’s the best time to go.

So many good places look like a dump on the outside!

Last two times at House of Hong brought baby roaches to the table. One time, a dried one in the noodles. Last time, a live little guy was under a plate. NEVER AGAIN.

I don’t mind an unattractive spot, but when the roaches make it (or try to make it) out of the kitchen alive, ack. I’ve been off dim sum in Seattle since.

ew…I hate cock roaches. I remember once in the mess hall at Ft. Monmouth,NJ, my bf,(to become my husband now ex) had just dished up a salad with lots of blue cheese dressing…he sat down and there was a cockroach doing a breast stroke on the top of the dressing…ick…

Jumbo cracks me up – not only looks like a dump, but I think it used to be a Safeway…really funny roofline, but a great surprise inside.

I had a VERY authentic dinner there with a Chinese acquaintance and almost nothing I ate (enthusiastically and with a smile on my face) would be something I would have ordered – or would order again, lol. I’m skittish about my food looking back at me and he would NOT tell me what was coming. That said, if this was his pick, I’m going to count that as two thumbs up because he is very particular.

I just think I would order something different next time!

I wasn’t going to post about my Roach expereince but since someone else brought it up first…I waited 45 minutes for a table at Jade Garden only to have my 3rd or 4th bite be into a roach!

No thank you. Not again. I’m delighted to hear about a new option-I will try Jumbo for sure!

I’m waiting patiently for Hong Kong Seafood on Rainier to open again. I think that they’re over at Jumbo for now actually…
