trickycooljParticipantI’m admittedly spoiled when it comes to beef, my mom lives near a great rural butcher shop in Thurston County (Stewart’s Meats). They have amazing steaks that cut like a hot knife through butter. I haven’t grilled much in the city as I’ve lived in an apartment until recently but when the occasion strikes and a friend has a BBQ I’d like to splurge on a quality steak. Are there any good old fashioned butcher shops or a grocery store that has good quality steaks/meat? In some places I’ve lived the Safeway or local chain grocer must have had someone who knew their stuff behind the counter. Any tips for West Seattle? Random grocery store that might surprise me?

JanSParticipantThe Swinery in West Seattle for a butcher…or Bob’s Meats in Columbia City…two that I can think of right now…
oh, and Metropolitan Market in the Admiral District will probably have a decent steak, too

jissyParticipanttricky: we make the trek into Burien frequently to B & E Meats on Ambaum… great, high quality stuff and a really good variety. They just started to open on Sunday’s, too.

LStephensParticipantCostco’s filet mignons can’t be beat. We have never had a bad one.

LenaParticipantYou are only get it Sunday but Skagit River Ranch at the farmer’s market has the best beef I have ever had. Totally grass feed, organic and local and you can taste the difference. You can also go out to their farm shop on Saturdays but it is a bit of a drive.

JimmyGMemberI second B & E Meats in Burien on Ambaum.
Great cuts, knowledgeable people, and no attitude.

BLhappypetsParticipantThe Swinery. They allow me to bring in my own jars so I don’t have to deal with the packaging as well, something groceries stores “don’t allow” for whatever reason. If for any reason you are up on CHill, Rain Shadow is also great (in Melrose Market.)

kurlygrrlMemberDefinitely the Swinery. Excellent quality meats and really great service. It’s a restaurant, too, so I always plan my visits around lunchtime and grab a burger or BBQ pork sammie while I’m there.

itsmeParticipantOk, here’s one: my mother used to be a caterer in another state. She was able to purchase prime grade beef from a wholesaler, and got very used to that quality. I know Costco sells prime grade on some cuts, but does anyone know of another place that sells prime grade?
