ZenguyParticipantI have been lurking on the OK Corral thread for a while to see the reviews. I will try it at some point but have not made it yet. Seattle is not exaclty the BBQ capitol, but we do have a few islands of BBQ goodness stroon around here and there.
There are as many kinds of BBQ as you can shake a stick at and everyone has different tastes of course.
I really like the Carolina BBQ house in the Duwamish industrial district, Pig Iron BBQ at 5602 1st Ave S. Honey mustard sauce, greens, cornbread and sweet tea…mmm.
Pecos Pit for a spicier, tomatoier (is that a word) and you can get a sandwich side spiked with a hot link.
And if you really want to travel far (ok it is only Bellevue) Three Pigs at 1044 116TH Ave has some wonderful beef ribs that I dream about but rarely cross the bridge for.
What else does everyone else like? No chains please, just seems un-bbq-like.

west seattle golferMemberHole in the wall BBQ in Pioneer Square gets my vote. They have a smoked meatloaf (!) on Monday’s that is well worth the trip. Pork & Brisket are delicious as well.

JanSParticipantZenguy..sweet tea…mmmmmmm…I’d go just for that…

AimParticipantJan and Zenguy, I foresee a BBQ outing…

JenVMemberSmokin’ Pete’s BBQ out in Ballard has the best sides of any BBQ joint I have been to. They’re actually healthy! Blackened broccoli, Asian slaw and two different kinds of greens- the “Seattle” which I believe are vegetarian, and the standard greens. Their meat is good, too- and they have an assortment of sauces ranging from vinegary to super spicy.
I call shotgun on he BBQ outing!
November 26, 2008 at 4:12 pm #648162
ZenguyParticipantOk, Jen that sounds good. You are making me dream of the blasted broccoli at the Black Bottle…serious awesome.
November 26, 2008 at 4:25 pm #648163
BayouMemberPerhaps I’m biased (I grew up just south of Memphis) but I don’t think that the words “healthy” or “vegetarian” belong in a conversation about BBQ! ;)
Pig Iron is my favorite (so far) in Seattle. My usual is a brisket plate with chipotle BBQ, with sides of smokey beans and sweet potato fries. Of course, sweet tea is a must- it’s the only place I’ve been able to find it here.
November 26, 2008 at 7:38 pm #648164
datamuseParticipantI went to that place next door to Pig Iron last night–Slim’s Last Chance, I think? Anyway they have Pig Iron BBQ on their menu. I didn’t try it last night because they ALSO have a crawfish tail po’boy and omg, it’s one of the better ones I’ve had outside of Louisiana.
I’m not crazy about sweet tea, which I suppose means I have to turn in my (half-)Southerner card, but they’ve also got a sweet tea mojito and that was quite tasty!
Will definitely be going back.
(I wanted to try out OK on Sunday when I was in the Junction on errands, but they were closed. Sad day.)

RSMemberYeah, I’m going to need to be involved in any kind of BBQ outing. I need to finally accept that my personal definition of bbq is a very specific type that just doesn’t exist outside of a few places. So I’m up for branching out.
As long as we’re all clear on the fact that barbeque is a noun and not just a verb. So sick of this conversation- me: I love barbeque. some bostonian: barbequed what? arrrrgggh.

datamuseParticipantWell, they can’t help it–they’re Yankees!
November 26, 2008 at 9:04 pm #648167
JEMParticipantI believe Slim’s Last Chance is owned by the Pig Iron folks. The jalepeno spinach casserole is my favorite side by far. And I’ll skip the sweet tea – Shiner Bock on tap, yum.
November 26, 2008 at 9:40 pm #648168
BayouMemberMmmm Shiner on tap. I haven’t tried Slim’s yet but I will now that I know they are serving po’boys!
November 26, 2008 at 9:46 pm #648169
B-squaredParticipantGoin’ to Pig Iron tonight – my favorite local BBQ, although i haven’t tried OK corral yet. i have to “second” the rave about the spinach-jalepeno casserole – and they make a tasty Margarita too! Combo plate, Mmmmmmmmmm…..
November 26, 2008 at 9:55 pm #648170
RSMemberSigh… Shiner. I want to like it, but I also want to just say no to “corporate beer”. It’s depressing how many good beers are owned by massive companies. Anyway.
Now I’m totally craving some pulled pork, mushy vegetables and tea so sweet it hurts my teeth. Good thread Zen Guy!!
November 26, 2008 at 10:02 pm #648171
JenVMemberyes, I think dinner might have to be take out from OK Corral tonight.
November 26, 2008 at 10:15 pm #648172
BayouMemberRS- I fell in love with Shiner while living in TX and I have to admit that I didn’t realize that Spoetzl Brewery was corporate owned.
After a little researching, I found more sadness! “The Gambrinus Company” also owns BridgePort Brewery in Portland, Oregon, (Blue Heron & Beer Town Brown) the Trumer Brauerei in Berkeley, California and the Pete’s Brewing Company (Pete’s Wicked Ales).
November 26, 2008 at 10:32 pm #648173
RSMemberBayou- I know, it is totally sad. I just learned that about BridgePort too. :( Guess I’ll have to stick with Full Sail- employee owned!
November 27, 2008 at 9:43 am #648174
JanSParticipantdamn, we do like to eat in West SEattle, don’t we? So many places for a meet-up, so little time…or not :) Someone needs to start making a list – lol…check them off one by one until we get to everywhere we want to get :)
November 27, 2008 at 4:13 pm #648175
ZenguyParticipantMaking a list and checking it twice seems appropriate this time of year.
