amaliaParticipantJust so I don’t get accused of burying a rant under another topic, here’s my response to another post (intended as more of a heads-up than a rant):
.
24/7 Locksmith (very sketchy company, no storefront and hard to look up) WAY overcharged me and gave me a bogus estimate (it was very low on the phone, so I didn’t call anyone else and got stuck with them).
.
phone estimate: $28
drill lock: $155
new lock: $100
re-key doorknob: $35
.
They didn’t have the right locks and returned after 9PM (and the guy inexplicably asked me, mid-sentence, when my husband was coming home), still didn’t have the right lock, and left me in a lockless house overnight.
.
The guy who showed up was nice enough, but the guy answering the phone is a fraud and liar. He won’t return my calls now. When my husband called to ask why I was only given a single key, he was told a) there’s only one key, b) I lost the second key, and c) he’d look into it.
.
I don’t mind paying for service at all, but I would have appreciated them telling me (after my repeated requests for clarification) that the $28 fee was to simply show up, and all other (radically overpriced) actions were more.
.
DO NOT USE 24/7 Locksmith!

GenHillOneParticipantWhoa, was this a broken lock to start with or just a matter of being locked out? NBC just did a whole undercover piece on exactly this stuff. Especially if it was a lock-out, quality locksmiths can pick a lock (without drilling, which ruins the lock and requires a new one…and more charges). According to the story, picking it and getting you in should run about $100.

Oh, and you might want to include what management’s response was to your complaint (per WSB Rant rules)…

JanSParticipantI believe I’ve heard about these fraudsters in the past. What I heard was that the phone # in the phone book has nothing to do with who comes out to your house. They just contract with individuals. I could be wrong, though. GHO…OP said “He won’t return my calls now.” That sucks.

GenHillOneParticipantAh, didn’t realize that was management. Well I’d call from another phone then ;)

kmweinerMemberI posted about this several months ago. They had a number that looked like they were in the neighborhood and yet they came from Kent and the east sidie. Over charged, broke my door and were a nightmare to deal with.
