I took a perfect picture for the cover of my friend’s book. It was a great picture of leave-less poplar trees along the Burke Gilman Trail in Bothell. But I lost it somewhere.

Are there any good stands of poplar trees here in West Seattle so that I don’t have to drive to Bot-Hell to try and recreate it? The shot was taken from ground-up looking at a blue sky with either a sepia tone or fakey IR filter applied. I would like to take advantage of our rare blue skies.

    Thanks – me.

Assuming you are looking for the tall, pointed Lombardy poplars, there are some in West Seattle Golf Course.

Not WS, but closer than Bothell …Per Arthur Lee Jacobson’s books on Seattle trees: Beacon Hill, north end of Jefferson Park Golf Course; Greenlake, north of the Bath House; UW, along Stevens Way by Architecture Hall; UW, along Montlake Cut; North Seattle, Evergreen Park/Washelli Cemetery on Aurora Ave. N.; Queen Anne, First Ave. W., north of W. Highland Drive; North Seattle, Ravenna Ave. N.E., north of N.E. 86th St.

Beautiful trees … unfortunately a lot have been lost lately to disease.

The SSCC Arboretum has several stands of Lombardy poplar. One small grouping is adjacent to the rose gardens where the two major pathways intersect. The other is along the NW fenceline.

I was thinking of dropping by the SSCC wine sale this afternoon–sounds like the easiest place to check out.
