Phone repair

I have a landline phone only, which has not worked for 5 days now. DSL works. Century Link (horrible as always) has eliminated my Line backer coverage without my knowledge or consent, and now wants to charge me $95 just for coming out to check the inside line – more to correct the problem. Does anyone know someone who can possibly repair an inside line that won’t charge hundreds of dollars? Doesn’t have to be an electrician. I’m at my wit’s end with these thugs.
