SmittyParticipantRead the rules, people.
This gets old, but am I the only one that follows the rules? Clearly posted on both the north and sound sides of the track yet people are walking their dogs(leashed and unleashed, of course) all the time. “Up to $500 fine”.
Stop it! What makes you more important than me? If you don’t like the rule then do something to get it changed.
Maybe they need those circle/slash signs for people who can’t (or more like don’t) read?

DBurnsParticipantUnfortunately there is just something about leash laws (“No dogs” too) that makes those people think “It doesn’t mean MY dog”. It’s really bad! Freaks me out!! I just this minute got back from Lincoln Park where I saw no less than 7 dogs running off leash with owners behind. I really just don’t get it. And with all the work just put into that track??? Seriously? People, come on!

JanSParticipantHeaven forbid we should restrict someones perceived “freedoms”. Just look at the reactions that are manifested whenever there might be something that tells you you can’t do something in public…like smoking, spitting, etc. Too many thoughtless people feel that they can do anything while you’d better not infringe on their “rights”…but didn’t we do this to ourselves through the “me” generation?

OlMomParticipantI am just asking–Are dogs not allowed on the asphalt track? I did read the symbol sign and the written word sign which accompanied it. The written word sign does indicate that it is rules applying to Seattle Playfields.

MargLMemberDogs are not allowed on any “organized athletics area” per SMC 18.12.080

HuindekmiParticipantIn other words, dogs are not allowed on the field (which is an organized athletics area) but are allowed on the track (which is not). Provided they are leashed, of course.

MargLMember:-) so the “track” part of “track and field” is not considered an “organized” athletic sport?

HuindekmiParticipantHave you seen the Hiawatha track? It is not regulation size, is unstriped, and is made of asphalt. It is not suitable for organized track and field events and is not used for that purpose. Never has been.

SmittyParticipantHanding out tickets today – police are there! Yes!!!!!!!!!
I’ll respond to the inevitable before it’s even posted:
Yes, the police should be doing other things – so STOP TAKING DOGS TO HIAWATHA SO THEY CAN!
