JonDMemberMy parents were at the new play area at Westcrest park with my kids on Friday and my father lost his West Point class ring.
It is a US Military Academy gold ring with a blue stone and the class crests of 1946 and 1971 on either side. It is a very special item for my
family and we would really love to find it.
We would be happy to pay anyone that finds the ring a reward of $500.
Our contact number is 703.801.5661. That is my father’s mobile number. His name is Bert David.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

jissyParticipantJon: I frequent the new park with my kids & will keep an eye out…. where was your dad at the park?? Wood chip area only? In the big field? On the hill by slides?

JonDMemberThank you for the offer to keep an eye out. He was pushing my daughter on the swings. He thinks he lost it in that area of the park.

phoenixParticipantDo you know anyone who owns a metal detector? What about seeing if you can rent one? Hoping for the best!

JonDMemberThanks for the tip Phoenix. We did find a nice volunteer that is experienced with metal detectors and helped us look. We still haven’t found the ring, but we aren’t giving up!

Talaki34ParticipantHi JonD,
Have you reported the loss to West Point Association of Graduates? They maintain a Lost and Found for class rings. I would suggest contacting them as soon as possible.

To the right on this page are links to several other areas regarding rings.
I hate to say this, but you might want to check local pawnshops or any place that purchases fine metals. Don’t forget to file a formal report with the police too.

JonDMember@Talaki34; thanks for the suggestions. We have indeed contacted the West Point Association of Graduates. We have also visited the local pawnshops near the park and filed a police report. Please keep the suggestions coming!

metrognomeParticipantJonD – good luck on your search. And thanks to your father for his service. I’m guessing maybe his father as well, Class of ’46?

WSConvertMemberWe were at the park on labor day and saw your dad (I presume) looking for his ring and re-hanging signs. We tried to keep an eye out for it and really hope it is found – he looked pretty devastated.
Did you contact the parks department?
September 10, 2015 at 8:47 pm #827650
JonDMember@WSConvert – We did indeed contact the parks department.
@metrognome – Thanks for the note about my Dad’s service. The class of 46′ portion of the ring does represent my Grandfather. They both went to West Point and the ring was designed to represent both of their commitment to the academy and the military.
Thank you everyone for continuing to keep and eye out for it.

jissyParticipantJonD: I was there today and looked around quite a bit, no luck, with the sun out I was hoping for a glisten/shiny indicator of some kind. I was thinking though (and you probably already did this) to maybe go back with a garden rake, stir up the top layer of woodchips, etc… Might be worth a try.

2 Much WhineParticipantI know this may be more annoying than helpful but. . . . .many years ago I was mowing the lawn and I lost my wedding ring. We looked everywhere for that ring and never found it. My wife eventually used a bonus check from work to buy me another one (that’s pretty cool, huh?). I wore that ring for several years. One day, 5 or 6 years after I lost the original ring, I put on a swim suit that I had not worn in years. The lost ring was hiding in the little coin pocket in the swim suit. So what I am saying is. . . . .when I get home from work I’ll check my swimsuit and see if your lost ring is in there too. Apparently there is some sort of ring black hole in that swim suit. I’ll get back to you if I find it.

I think that version of the story is a lot better than me just saying “did you look in his pants pocket?”

JonDMember@jissy – thank you for looking. I really appreciate it. We are going to try to get back up to the park this weekend with a rake and perhaps even a medal detector.
@2 Much Whine – Glad you found your ring! We are pretty confident that my Dad’s ring is in the park since he lost another ring that day that was worn on the same finger and below his West Point ring. We were able to find the other ring in the park.
