WSBKeymasterHi – assuming you got through on the phone by now? If so, please add results of your discussion with the management, which is our rule for posting a business rant, or else it will be deleted.

HunterGParticipantIt’s not a secret that I am an employee of Thriftway, so first of all I would like to extend an apology to you for how you were treated.
Please contact our store manager to notify him of the employees actions so he can bring this to their attention, and to hopefully make things right with you.
We work extremely hard to be better than everyone else when it comes to customer service, and unfortunately, sometimes we don’t live up to the expectations we hold ourselves to.
I will PM you with the contact information for the Store Manager etc.

eschoonoverMemberI sent a message through the Thriftway web page and expect to get a reply tomorrow. If it was the first time I was overcharged I might say “oh well” but its not. Most of the people there are pretty good. Tonight I was treated like a nobody. I took my sons to the Metropolitan in Admiral and they were very professional. I live in between so I’ll just shop there for awhile till Whole Foods opens.

MrJTMemberHow about using Amazon Fresh and eliminate any chance of human contact ?

dhgParticipantI am shocked to hear you received poor service. This Thriftway is actually once of THE BEST grocery stores in the area. They had a fire just over 10 years ago and it took a long time to rebuild but when they did, they got back almost all of the old employees. This was testament to excellent management and knowing how to treat employees right. That fact shows in almost all interactions. I don’t work there myself but it’s easy to see that the people who do act more like family (in a nice way) and are very helpful.

KevinParticipantI had a customer service issue with WS Thriftway about eight years ago when I first started shopping there.
.
I was all set to NEVER return again – however, I did take the time to complain, they responded, and the issue was corrected.
.
I have been a HIGHLY SATISFIED Thriftway shopper ever since.
.
I don’t know of ANY grocery store, except perhaps the Metropolitan (and not really in the same area) that can even begin to match WS Thriftway’s customer service and selection.
.
Some folks complain that Thriftway is “HIGH PRICED” but if you shop their sales and weekly ad specials, your annual grocery bill will be close to what you might pay elsewhere.
.
I’ll shop Costco and Cash N Carry for some items but WS Thriftway is my FIRST CHOICE for my daily needs.
.
Where else can you find a store with IMMACULATE cleanliness that even thinks about such trivial details as putting freshly cut flowers in the MEN’s restroom. And don’t forget about RARELY having to wait in line like other stores.
.
eschoonover – please do let us know the outcome of YOUR complaint. And NO, I don’t work for Thriftway either.

KevinParticipantAnd as a PS to my previous post – a WARNING about sale prices at ANY store. Just because the item is on “sale” does NOT mean the the SALE price is currently in the store’s computer system!
.
I have had this happen at a number of different grocery stores including Thriftway. The shelf tag may show a sale price, but I have found it really pays to WATCH the register screen during checkout and make sure that your “sale” items really ring up at the SALE price.
.
Your loss can really add up if you are buying a large quantity of a sale item.

rockergirlMemberI have always shopped at Thriftway – for over 20 years – love the store and it’s offerings from service, community involvement, employees, etc. but I always double check my receipts as it is a constant problem with sale items not ringing up correctly – have to go back in for refunds alot and management knows this as I have complained about many times. Pays to be attentive at the register and to double check your receipts. They’ve always been happy to refund the money but have not done much to improve situation and I am sure are striving to make sure all sale prices are more accurate in there system.

DunnoParticipantThis I do know. Thriftway has been my store for the past 30 years and only once out of over a 1000 visits have I ever not been totally satisfied. As far as specials, I’ve caught all
kinds of stores missing the sale price in the computer. The original poster is not a regular at your store, as a regular customer, you get two thumbs up from me!

ahmomParticipantI HEART THRIFTWAY!

HunterGParticipanteschoonover:
Have you sent the email yet? I have checked all the inboxes that come to the store and do not see anything from you.
May 14, 2009 at 4:49 pm #666621
swimcatMemberI usually go to Thriftway since their prices are reasonable if you shop the sale items (I’m going to start checking my receipt now though!), and their fresh items are the best around. The people that work there are usually very pleasant- I’ve never really had a bad experience that I can remember. The QFC in Westwood is a different story though- I can’t wait until the one at the Junction opens so I don’t have to go to that one anymore!!!

sam-cParticipantWe’ve been living in WS for almost 4 years now, and Thriftway was practically the only place we’d go. until about a year ago. in addition to their prices being higher than other places (I have the prices of things I buy regularly memorized- for diff. stores- so yes unless there is a sale price at Thriftway- they are higher), we’ve been overcharged/ charged for items we didn’t buy SEVERAL times.
the first couple of times, there were charges ($4.50) for something called “national brands” that we couldn’t match up to anything we took out of our bags. when we called the manager, they said that sounded like a charge for cigarettes. we don’t smoke. this happened twice and we made special trips back to get a refund.
we were charged $ 1.50 apiece for the little chocolates that are $ .50 apiece. since we got 3, we went back to get our $ 3.00.
the last time, our cashier must have been having a bad day… she scanned SEVERAL items twice, and kept having to delete the extra charges. she caught all of them except for a big block of cheddar cheese. we had purchased 2 blocks of cheese, not 3. so.. we had to go back and get a refund for that.
I’m sure there are other instances where we just said, whatever, it’s not worth the effort to get our money back.
it’s frustratingly comical. we don’t leave the parking lot until we’ve checked the receipt to find out what we’d been over-charged for that time. now we only stop by there once in a while to pick one or two things. we do our weekly shopping elsewhere.
they do have nice summer fund-raisers though, so we’ll be back for that, just not for our groceries.

vincentMemberOMG checkers arent robots! I want my money back! This never happens at safeway!
I agree with the comment on amazon fresh to avoid all human contact.

livingonthebeachMembereschoonover, sorry your experience was less than great. Give them another chance.
I also “heart” Thriftway. The store is always clean and easy to get around. They call for front help when busy, and the customer service desk has always been helpful (especially Chad). I really like seeing the Managers and Asst Managers working along side the staff, great example.
May 14, 2009 at 10:10 pm #666625
MrJTMemberI’m glad to see that this has turned into a positve for Thriftway.
Thake that eschoonover, enjoy Whole Foods, until THEY dont live up to your high standards !
May 14, 2009 at 10:49 pm #666626
SusanMemberI love Thriftway, too. I experienced a minor customer service problem a few months ago, but when I sent a note about it through the store’s Web site, the manager went above and beyond to correct it. He seems to really care.
May 14, 2009 at 11:09 pm #666627
vincentMemberwe currently only have a HOLE foods…….
May 14, 2009 at 11:32 pm #666628
austinMemberThe fact that their entire store amounts to nothing more than a giant pit in the ground makes for a fairly significant customer service issue in itself. I for one refuse to shop at the west seattle hole foods for the indefinite future. Possibly as long as early 2010.
May 15, 2009 at 12:28 am #666629
JoBParticipantaustin.. it is really fine of you to make such a sacrifice in solidarity with the existing west seattle markets ;->
May 15, 2009 at 4:36 am #666630
sam-cParticipantgreat attitudes and great customer service are definitely helpful if you have to go and get your money back all the time- like if you’ve paid for goods you don’t get, like eschnoovel did?
sure I could just let them keep my money, but at the rate and the luck I’ve had there, I’d lose about $200 a year.
ha ha – correct, no checker is a robot, nobody’s perfect, but I also don’t expect a checker to take advantage of me to support their smoking habit.
and thanks for the advice on Amazon F.- they treat me like a regular customer (even if I’m not) they sent me a $ 20 off my next order coupon!
the moral of the story is- they are really friendly and clean at Thriftway – just be sure and check your receipt, unless you’re rich of course.
May 15, 2009 at 4:50 am #666631
HunterGParticipantSam-c,
I hate doing this but it needs to be done:
“ha ha – correct, no checker is a robot, nobody’s perfect, but I also don’t expect a checker to take advantage of me to support their smoking habit.”
Are you accusing the employees of stealing from you?
Cashiers are paid an HOURLY wage. With all due respect, if they are smoking, they are using their paycheck to fund it, and then it becomes none of your business. Our staff are hard working and honest people, any mistakes are in no way malicious.
May 15, 2009 at 5:18 am #666632
HMC RichParticipantHey I’m Rich, but in name only. I like Thriftway. They are not perfect but it is your responsibility to check to see if any mistakes were made at the checkout stand.
If your “luck” is bad at this store, go elsewhere.
Some relatives of mine were visiting from Georgia. They raved about the store, the selection, and the people. They said they do not have anything close to that type of store. They liked it better than the Metropolitan Market also.
I have had to take back an item or two but that happens at most of the area grocery stores I go to. I have had a few items that went past their sell by date. I am guilty of not always checking the dates! No Problem. I just took them back.
It stinks when someone makes an error and it happens to affect you. We can all empathize. Usually when you go back you get numerous apologies and the issue is corrected.
Caveat Emptor!

pigeonmomParticipantaustin, I’m waiting until 2040 ;-)
May 15, 2009 at 3:03 pm #666634
sam-cParticipantI was referring to the “national brands” charge on our receipt for $4.50 or so that didn’t match up to anything we bought, and everything else was accounted for. when we asked the manager – she said that’s the line item for cigarettes, and was very nice about refunding our money.
Perhaps it was an honest mistake, but it was the same person who made the mistake, on more than one occasion.
