My wife and I are thinking about getting a home security system. I’ve been researching it on and off for a couple of weeks. I was hoping some folks might be able to give me some feedback about their experiences about providers they’ve used. ADT and Brinks seem to get equally bashed (although I recognize that people will naturally make the effort to post complaints more so than praise). I’ve seen a handful of posts recommending some local providers.

The other issue I’m trying to figure out is wireless vs. hardwired system. There’s quite a debate out there. Everything I’ve read says wireless is “cutting edge” but there can be more false alarms, more interference with the radio waves, and it’s easier for a burglar to disable a wireless (i.e. just destroying the all-in-one control panels that are common with wireless).

I’d really appreciate any thoughts, recommendations, warnings, etc. that folks could offer.

We have had Protection One for 5+ years and have been happy with the service. We’ve used the wireless version for about 4 years because we don’t have a landline. It has worked just fine and the only false alarms we have had have been one of the family accidentally opening the door when it was set (i.e. “operator error”). Whenever we do have an alarm go off they call within 30 seconds to alert us that our alarm has gone off. They are very responsive.

Chuck Noriss comes highly recommended. ;-)
