GenHillOneParticipantI recently went to the Habitat for Humanity web site out of curiosity after seeing their signs in the Highland Park development and found a great resource. I remember vaguely hearing about their warehouse in the past, but had forgotten. If you are doing any home projects and want to stretch your budget, this is a great way to help someone else at the same time. In a nutshell, they sell some of their donated materials at great savings. Here is the link:

WSMomParticipantMy dishwasher is on it’s last legs, I’m very excited to keep on eye on HFH “hot deals”! Thanks for the heads up!!

ErikParticipantWow, you have a dishwasher?
I’m sure I’ll be checking this place out, thanks for the tip.

ErikParticipantJan – Larry is the ‘rinse cycle’ of course, I’ve been a pro at handwashing dishes for a long time.

TrickParticipantNice find GenHillOne !
You’re motivating me to work even more on my house.
Erik, I’ve never owned a dishwasher either and I like it :)

mellaw6565MemberNot to be a handwashing spoiler, but I think Consumer Reports has done some testing which indicates that using a dishwasher to rinse and clean uses less water than hand rinsing & washing.
Of course a d/w doesn’t make a ton of sense for single people, but for bigger households I think they’re pretty necessary.

JanSParticipanthey, I’m a single person, and I use my dishwasher about twice a week…and in between it hides the dirty dishes until it’s full..I love it.
Erik…lucky dog Larry :)

mellaw6565MemberI have a table-top d/w that I used when I was single – loved it! Did a great job!

FullTiltParticipantThe Habitat outlet is amazing. Tons of everything you could need to work on your house. Tiles, screws, glue, appliances, furniture, windows…You see where I am going with this.

B-squaredParticipantDon’t forget our own Second Use Building Material (not quite west seattle, but closer than Ballard).
They have 20,000 sqft of space down near the transfer station.

I usually look there first before I head out to Ballard when I am looking for something. They have some cool stuff. They recently had a “Found Art” show and they often offer classes.

BayouMemberEarthwise has also been one of my favorite places to plunder for unique finds. It’s a great place for doors, trim, tile (etc) but they don’t have appliances.

KMKMemberI’m a huge fan of the Habitat Outlet. They also have a series of FREE home improvement workshops too. This weekend they have someone from the Garden Hotline giving a talk on Composting at Home.
10:30 am, Sat 10/25 – you can find out more details at http://www.seattlehabitatoutlet.org
Other upcoming workshops are on Greening your home and improving your home air quality. I’ve been to an eco-friendly gardeing workshop too – it was great!
