Hey, would anyone know what to do if I found a dog after normal business hours. Can’t keep in the house, but don’t want to let it go back out on the street without tags… Any suggestions?

Can you call Seattle Animal Shelter (206) 386-PETS(7387) ?

Send us a photo and description and we’ll put it on the pets page, where dozens of lost pets/owners have been reunited since we started it …

Dogs are usually reunited pretty quick.

After business hours seattle animal control generally can get it up till about 9 pm or so. but that depends on how many officers are on duty.

Not sure if this is still the policy of Seattle Animal Control but just afew years ago we found acouple stray dogs in our neigborhood and called the Pet Licensing number on the dogs tag and was told that Animal Control would be by to pick up the dogs and if they weren’t claimed they would be destroyed within 3 days. I kept the dogs out in the backyard away from our child and dog not knowing if they had updated shots and were good around children. I got the Pet Licensing department person to look up the pet owners phone number on their database and he gave me that number and I called to have the owners verify the breed etc… before we gave them our address and received the dogs to them.

I know the Seattle Humane Society is a no kill at all cost shelter. Give them a call.

Sorry to burst the bubble but Seattle Humane does euthanize. So does PAWS.

Don’t worry Hammerhead, I would rather have truth than not.

Hope the stray gets taken care of. I wish I had a giant farm with loving volunteers – I would take in the majority of the strays in Seattle if I did.

Seattle Humane doesn’t euthanize due to space or breed, but they do evaluate the animals medically and behaviorally to determine whether they are adoptable or not. They will not adopt out animals who are aggressive or terminally ill – they will euthanize in those cases. That said, they do not take in strays – only owner surrenders.
