SeekingEurosParticipantI have been trying to post responses to several threads, and your system keeps asking me to log on, for those posts (ie, seeking laurel trimmer). I log it, but then it keeps asking. Then i read another thread (but dont have anything to contibute) but the box show up for me to leave a contribution. I had no trouble posting this……

metrognomeParticipantI’ve run into this before; I think the solution is to hit ‘refresh’ to update the screen as that doesn’t always happen when you change pages.
When I was having trouble logging in to comment, TR passed on a suggestion from someone else, which is to clear your cache before logging in. I’m not a geek, so I have no idea if this might affect anything else you are working on, but I’ve not had any other problems when I’ve done it.

seaopgalParticipantI’ve had the same problem, and clearing the cache helped. But what I really want to know is, how does the Forum KNOW which threads I want to post in — and so denies me access — and which I don’t care about?!?

WSBKeymasterSorry about the glitches. It seems this creaky old (circa 2007) software can’t be fixed until we just up and move the entire site into a new shell. Which is in the works but not easy. If anything has changed since this time yesterday (as in, about 3 am Friday) I do want to know, as we made one change – adding an extra disk and moving databases to it, as our original server disk was about to max out, after 220K forum posts, 30K stories, 250K comments, 30K images …
Thank you all for your continued patience. We have had a really frustrating time since last year trying to get the technical upgrade done, wasted a lot of time and money that we really couldn’t afford to waste. Some spot problems have been fixable with hardware additions but others await the big overhaul.
In the short run, cache-clearing for some reason helps. I in fact need to do it as the system hung on me for a bit when trying to get in here just now to find a recent thread for which I have an update.

Ask Al Gore. He took the initiative to invent the damn thing!

metrognomeParticipantfor those using Win8x / IE10, I discovered another possible solution — if you have IE10 in ‘compatability view’, it causes a lot of problems (for example, I only saw blank white space where Instagrams videos were posted on the home page.) When I turned it off, I noticed the Forum refreshed automatically when I changed pages; some people who were logged in seemed to ‘loose’ their login status when changing pages because the page didn’t refresh.
To check, click ‘Tools’, ‘Compatability View settings’. If the ‘all websites’ box is checked, uncheck it; if WSB is listed, delete it. If you need CV for a specific site, you can turn it on/off with the icon in the address box (looks like a torn piece of paper near the ‘search’ and ‘refresh’ icons.

PLSParticipantIf you’re using IE the first thing I’d suggest is switching to Google Chrome. So much lighter, faster and compatible.
