rockhillsMemberThey don’t have any real information on me, other than my designated-for-spam e-mail account, so no.

JanSParticipantexactly, rockhills…if I don’t want it known, I don’t put it out there…

polka dotParticipantWell, I didn’t read the whole thing but it says they can take any of your photographs or writings and use them for whatever they want including thrid party licensing.
So if you put a cute picture of your baby up there, you might see it used later in a diaper ad (or used for any purpose), and they don’t have to ask, notify or pay you.

GenHillOneParticipantYeah, polka dot, that’s the rub as I understand it…not so much a new privacy thing, but you’re now giving up all “ownership” of anything you post. It sounds pretty airtight against lawsuits, but will probably be challenged re: minors.

emilyMemberjust went to check my page and saw that for the time being at least, they are reverting to the old ToS.

What TheMemberOMG…my baby-pics were just used to support Michael Phelps! I swear I never used a “Turkish Water-pipe”. I swam in a pool a couple of times but never, ever thought about smoking the “Devils Weed”!

WSBKeymasterHere’s something that preceded this Terms of Use kerfuffle and I can’t believe people don’t riot about it:
Have you ever seen your name in an ad? Probably not. But one of your “friends” might. If you have ever declared yourself a “fan” of something, you may wind up in a paid Facebook ad displayed to one of your “friends,” if the thing you “fanned” has taken out advertising. Let’s say you’re Alki Andy, and you’re a fan of Heinz Ketchup, and a Heinz Ketchup is displayed to me – it may say Alki Andy is a fan of Heinz Ketchup, buy the two-ton tub now blah blah blah … Voila! You’re an uncompensated product spokesperson!
You can opt out of having yourself used in this way, somewhere deep in the profile/settings/etc. (I found it once and opted out and can’t find it again.)

TraciMember“Over the past few days, we have received a lot of feedback about the new terms we posted two weeks ago. Because of this response, we have decided to return to our previous Terms of Use while we resolve the issues that people have raised. For more information, visit the Facebook Blog.
If you want to share your thoughts on what should be in the new terms, check out our group Facebook Bill of Rights and Responsibilities.”
-This is FB’s current header. I didn’t know anything was going on until today. I have no TV so I basically just watch LOST and go on multiple awesome websites daily, mostly Facebook. I don’t care if they use my pictures in a brochure of what NOT to do at college parties if you want to look professional someday or something.
Really though, that’s hella shady. Mark Zuckerberg, I’m reporting you! How dare you take down my insanely epic pictures over the years and pull this crap? Pfft.

ellenaterMemberThat’s why I quit Myspace. That and the constant friending by whores. I will cancel my account when they do that. I stopped seriously using Flickr when they essentially made my photos public property.
Jerks!

FullTiltParticipantDon’t worry FB fans of Full Tilt, we are not doing any advertising on Facebook-at least none of the official-use-you-fans-to-sell-stuff type advertising…we just post stuff and hijack my status updates occasionally.

JanSParticipantso, OK folks…as of yesterday, which was reported in #12, by Traci…..they have reverted back to the old rules…so no need to worry about sketchy info you might share with your friends ;-)
My advice…if you don’t really want it out there in all perpetuity, don’t put it out there…
;-)

RSMemberTo change the settings for the Social Ads that TR mentioned (which is infuriating to me too, by the way), go into Privacy Settings, select News Feed and Wall, then select the Social Ads tab and make sure it is set to “no one”.
