goodgracesParticipantWe’re going to get some and would love to know what others have and your experiences. We’re looking at HealthyPaws, Embrace, and Petplan.
It would be great to not have to submit forms for reimbursement (either online or actual paper forms) and have the vets themselves submit the benefit requests, like human docs do. Do the plans/vets you use offer that?
Thanks for your thoughts!

wakefloodParticipantI’ve had it for years and it has been very worthwhile. I have saved thousands over that period on just two kitties.
My plan is through VPI and the premiums on their gold level plan have been quite reasonable to my eye.
I have used the West Seattle Animal Hospital in Jefferson Square underneath the Bartell’s and they have done auto-submittals for me. Not sure if others do?
Good luck!

trickycooljParticipantYou may be able to get a discounted policy through your employer if they have a discount plan. I know we have a discount with VPI and I know a few family members with pups have been glad to have it for those mischievous puppy moments.

angelescrestParticipantThank you for this post (and reminder), goodgraces. I just signed up for a VPI plan for our new pup. Never thought about it until our 1 yr. old border died of osteosarcoma, and I was left with a $3,000. specialty surgeon’ s bill–though she never had the surgery. Dreadful. On a good note: the vets at South Seattle Veterinary Hospital worked wonders the other evening for a fee of $10!?! Extraordinary!

dhgParticipantConsider Healthypawspetinsurance.com. They are a Bellevue company with great rates and plans.

kayoParticipantWe had it for years with our previous dogs (24 hour Petwatch because at the time there were only two companies even offering insurance). We had decent coverage and West Seattle Animal Hospital submitted our claims for us. It was worth every penny, especially towards the end of our dog’s lives when it seemed like we were at the vet constantly. We just got another dog and went with Healthy Paws on the recommendation of friends. Not the cheapest premium (middle of the road and I got quotes from 5 different companies), but supposedly good coverage and customer service. Pet insurance gives you peace of mind knowing that if something unexpected comes up, you don’t have to worry as much about the cost. I feel like it is well worth it.

littlebrowndogParticipantWhile sitting in the lobby of an emergency clinic anxiously awaiting word about our senior dog, having just forked over in advance a large sum of money, we saw a pamphlet for VPI insurance sitting on the counter. My husband looked at me, I looked at him, and right then and there we called and got it for our two young dogs. My now 6yo dog has never needed it (thank goodness) but we afforded two $3k + surgeries on the now 5yo dog plus treatment for dietary indiscretions and a handful of other things. Having been through several senior pets’ declining health I know for sure it is worth it.
