valvashonParticipantIf so, I’d like a favor next time you are there. They sell a tiny stainless steel travel cup. If you could nonchalantly turn one over and memorize the web address of where they come from I’d really appreciate it. It’s http://www.beverage- [something]. Hopefully your memory will be better than mine. I liked the size, the price and I was even ok about it saying Cupcake Royale or whatever on the side. I’m just wondering if they come in colors other than brown and grey (the plastic part on the side). Thanks!

AdamOnAlkiParticipantI am going to give this topic “the bump” up to the top because I find it hilarious.
Val, do they discourage you from finding out who the manufacturer of their product line is? I’m sure if you asked they would openly let you know. Or maybe I am wrong.

JiggersMemberMy 7 year old niece can make a better cupcake for half the price..j/m/o

pigeonmomParticipantJiggers, I totally agree, I love their coffee though.

SueParticipantValvashon, are you talking about those small brown cups at the register that look like they’d hold a 12 oz. drink? I was in there today and looked at the label, and it said liquidsolutions.com – however, upon going to that website, it’s a placeholder for a site and not very helpful. But maybe the name will help you google for something similar.
Adam, I got the impression that Val just forgot what it was and didn’t go back to Verite/Cupcake Royale often enough to find out, not that they wouldn’t give her the info. But I could be wrong too.

TraciMemberThese cups are really popular around Seattle right now. I love Tougo’s design maybe more than Cupcake Royale. From what I understand, they’re called Satin Gel Tumblers and are only sold in bulk to companies.

JeannieParticipantHere you go, from Cupcake Royale itself. And I agree, their cupcakes are nothing special. Very dry and dusty, served with attitude. Coffee to a Tea is much better.

RainyDay1235MemberI agree – Coffee & Tea is much better. Cupcake has great ambiance and marketing, but I am sadly dissapointed by their coffee too. How can a white chocolate mocha come out bland?
March 9, 2009 at 5:10 pm #659642
swimcatMemberI agree- CR’s cupcakes are too dry and bland for my taste, but I do like the chocolate frosting at least. Coffee to a Tea has much better desserts, but I’ve had some dry cakes from there too.

RSMemberThose mugs are pretty great. We got one for a gift for someone for xmas and almost ended up keeping it for ourselves. I’m not a fan of their cupcakes- I make the trek to Trophy for the really good stuff. But I LOVE their coffee! Stumptown is the best and I’m so glad I can get it by the bag in WS now!!

flowerpetalMemberIn defense of Cupcake Royale; there has been a shortage of syrup of ipecac, and I’m just saying…
March 9, 2009 at 5:24 pm #659645
villagegreenMemberStumptown coffee rocks! As for their cupcakes, the frosting is where it’s at. The cake itself is pretty crumbly, but tastes fine to me. Granted, I’m no cupcake aficionado. They don’t really do much for me. If I want a real dessert I’d probably head up to Bakery Nuevo instead.
March 9, 2009 at 5:26 pm #659646
villagegreenMemberOops! Meant Bakery Nouveau!

valvashonParticipantThanks to Sue- the web address actually is http://www.liquid-solutions.com (note the hyphen). I tried to remember the address as we left the other day but couldn’t. I’m old school and would feel weird going in to write down the address from the bottom of one of their cups without buying anything (we spent all the cupcake money the other day). Liquid Solutions seems to do some online sales, but apparently not of the tiny travel mug I saw at CR. I just wanted to see if they had other colors or maybe one without a cupcake on it.
March 10, 2009 at 5:06 pm #659648
SueParticipantGlad I could help, Val, even if they didn’t list the cups on their site. Maybe you could email/call them about it? If they don’t sell them, perhaps they can tell you where else they sell them (other stores) so you can see if there’s a better color or logo somewhere else.

LexMemberwhat I would like to know is when did it become ok to charge over $1 for a cupcake. I can purchase ingredents to make a 2 dozen for the price of 1 Cupcake Royale’s cupcakes. Thats just high class laziness when you can’t make your own cupcakes or enjoy the fun of doing so with your kids. I see that Cold Stone has an ice cream cupcake, now that my friends is a novel idea and worthy of paying a little extra. the ingredients used and the time to creat those cupcakes are well worth the price of 6 for $10!!
March 10, 2009 at 10:49 pm #659650
LexMemberforgot to add that Bakery Nouveau is well worth paying the little extra because they do have specialty items and the service they provide. shameful as much as I go there but i tell you I walk in and they remember me and my order and even make suggestions to try a new item. i’ve switched from the twiced baked almond croissant to the chocolate almond croissant…ok so i haven’t swithed i still get them both. Now they have added Hot Cross Buns….really? are they testing my will power.
March 11, 2009 at 4:15 pm #659651
SueParticipantLex, I don’t think it’s necessarily laziness that makes people spend that on a cupcake. If I were to make a batch of cupcakes at home, I’d eat all of them, probably in the same day. So it would be worth it to me to come away with only one, even if it cost me exactly the same. I don’t need a whole batch of cupcakes. :)

AnonymousInactive“Thats just high class laziness when you can’t make your own cupcakes or enjoy the fun of doing so with your kids.”
Maybe a little extreme on the judgment? I make croissants and pastries from scratch that taste much better than the bakery’s. Doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a treat when your out.
March 11, 2009 at 8:26 pm #659653
LexMemberBut Sue think of the fun of making them. Eat one and give the rest to a neighbor or work make. I appreciate a home made treat over store bought any day because I know it took alot of time, love and sometimes talent to make these treats.
March 11, 2009 at 8:27 pm #659654
LexMemberno not extreme judgement at all. I see families going in there and purchasing the cupcake by the dozen, missing out on family time together to make those treats.
March 11, 2009 at 9:26 pm #659655
datamuseParticipantMaybe they spend their family time doing something else.
March 11, 2009 at 11:43 pm #659656
BarbGMemberLex, you don’t know at all why families go in there and purchase cupcakes by the dozen, and it’s really none of your business.
March 11, 2009 at 11:55 pm #659657
TraciMemberI guess I’m in the minority here, but I LOVE Cupcake Royale. They serve Stumptown coffee and have some great frosting flavors. Lavender, salted caramel, irish whiskey…yum! Yes, the cake can be a little crumbly but I really don’t care. The way it bakes all chewy on the top is enough to satisfy me. I like the cupcakes across the street too but find myself craving CR.
About baking them with family, my mom has never been a baker. I’m not a baker. Our idea of baking is a brownie mix, and it’s a little presumptuous to say that baking is a *family* thing. Families establish their own traditions. My family plays cards, some families like sports, some garden, some….whatever. Get the gist?
March 12, 2009 at 12:00 am #659658
BarbGMemberTraci you aren’t the only one, I also love cupcake royale. Before there was one in WS, I would go to the one in Ballard. I also really love Trophy cupcake in Wallingford, but those are even more expensive so those are my splurges when I’m in that area.
And you are correct, I love baking but I work in an office that discourages bringing in baked goods, and with only two people in the house there is no reason to bake a whole dozen cupcakes, or a whole bunch of anything really. So I save my baking time for holidays and opt to treat myself periodically to a cupcake, or a cookie or whatever else I want to purchase.
