GinaParticipantHere since the 60’s. Peninsula? Nope. My response is the insular peninsula. After the high bridge was built sometimes “over the bridge.” Or “imported across the water” for bringing something across the Duwamish

bailecyclistParticipantBeen here 36 years, and never heard West Seattle referred to as “The Peninsula”.

twobottlesParticipantI’ve been here since 1987 and I’ve always just called it “West Seattle”. When I hear “The Peninsula” I (as others have said) think of the Olympic Peninsula. But as a somewhat successful English Poet and Playwright once said, “As rose by any other name…”

pattileaParticipantI was born and raised here, and have never heard it referred to as the peninsula. I have a second home in Port Townsend, we DO call that the peninsula!

me on 28th Ave SWParticipantI have lived here my entire life (since the sixties), never heard West Seattle described as “the penisula” until I read WSB (even though it is geologically accurate). Liked the sound of it, and have adopted it since. : )

debmarkParticipantI am a Fauntleroy boy and have lived here almost my entire live. (since the 50’s, no shit.”!:!?)
Never ever have I or my family ever talked of “the peninsula” If one is used to being out in the open Inland waters there are a lot of peninsulas to be confused by. I love my West Seattle.

WednesdayMemberWell it is a peninsula, regardless of what we call it. Just not as big as the Kitsap, or the even larger Olympic Peninsula.

seaopgalParticipantSort of like how I-405 is now “the 405” … isn’t that an LA transplant? Haven’t heard “the 5” or “the 90” yet, but probably a matter or time.

elikapekaParticipantAnd “The Puget Sound.” Drives me nuts. Even the newscasters say it now. It should be either “Puget Sound” or the Puget Sound region or area or some other qualifier, not “The Puget Sound.”
