Hello! I’m considering returning to WA state after a 25-year hiatus. I’ve seen some rentals on Craigslist/Zillow. However, what neighborhoods are dog friendly and bonus points if I can ditch my car?

All neighborhood’s are dog friendly. However, that’s assuming you keep your dog leashed and pick up after it. As far as ditching your car. If your recreation needs include going to the coast/mountains/San Juan’s you’ll need a car.

In West Seattle, The Junction is the best place to go carless as it has numerous walkable businesses and it’s on the RapidRide C Line between here and downtown/South Lake Union, or the 50 to SODO to take light rail. While Admiral has many walkable businesses, it does not currently have frequent bus service. Also, “dog friendly” is subjective. In West Seattle there is only one off-leash park, at the far southeast end. – TR

Seattle is very different than when you were here 25 yrs ago. I don’t know where you would be moving from but come with your eyes wide open that you will be moving to a large city with a number of big problems, homelessness and massive amounts of garbage piled around encampments, crime, traffic, housing costs are high. If you consider West Seattle be clear that the WS Bridge has been closed for a year and repair work won’t start until the fall so access in and out of WS is very difficult. If you are determined to move back, and hope to not need a car, my suggestion is to consider housing somewhere along the light rail path. soundtransit.org.

I’m in the camp of if you can’t comprehend picking up your dog’s poop, then never ever get a dog. Always leashed and he usually tells me where to go.

I have family about an hour away and yes, I know it’s changed a lot in the last 25 years. Big fan of walking, currently I have filled my gas tank only 2.5 times since January 1.

Something to keep in mind if you were looking to rent with with a dog, many of the apartments have a weight limit of about 30 lb for pets, and many of them also have breed restrictions, like not allowing pitbulls and similar breeds. So do keep that in mind if that applies to you. Otherwise, most places do seem to allow pets, with a pet deposit/fee of a few hundred dollars, and sometimes monthly pet rent.

Thanks, Sue! He’s just under 27lbs and 100% beagle. He’s a registered emotional support animal.

I’m officially looking for a 1 or 2 bedroom place. I have solid references, just me and my service animal, I work from home M-F don’t smoke. If anyone has any quiet neighborhoods or leads, please let me know. Many thanks. I also make kick-ass chocolate chip cookies.

I’ll bet my pit bulls are less likely to bite than a beagle.

@mark47n not sure what that is supposed to mean, but okay.
