My partner recently leased a Nissan Leaf, 100% electric, and we couldn’t help but notice that the charging stations at the Fauntleroy ferry dock are placed at the Vanpool parking spots…They’re not electric vehicles, who are they serving? We love to go to Lincoln Park and this would be a great place to plug in and go enjoy the park, anyone have any ideas on why they were placed there versus maybe in the park parking lot? It doesn’t appear as though anyone but Vanpool is able to park there –maybe beyond 3-4 hours a day when one is able to park there.

Looks like this (PDF) link answers your question:

It’s interesting that the King County fact sheet on the Leaf specifically mentions that the car is capable of 90mph, especially considering that there are no public roads in Washington State where it is legal to drive any passenger vehicle that speed.

Maybe because the batteries would drain to zero a few seconds after hitting 90mph? ;-)

Max speed isn’t just about how fast you can go on a sustained basis. It’s also a measure indicating whether you have extra bursts of speed when you need it. For example, some scooters max out at 45 mph. That’s fine, as long as you don’t expect to spend any extended time at that speed. But if I were on road such as the viaduct it would be good to have extra bursts of speed available if necessary to avoid potentially nasty situations. If you told me a car has a max speed of 70 I would not feel as safe on a highway as in car that has a max speed of 90.

Ahh..Thanks miws, I was not aware they were electric vehicles as they do not resemble my partners car…I get it now, still a bummer though that they aren’t for anyone’s use but Metro.

I was wondering if the ones there now, aren’t Leafs, I figured you would recognize such) but older gas vehicles, that will be phased out to be replaced by Leafs (Leaves ;-) ).

Now, if you had a reeeeeeaaaaallllly long 220v extension cord….. (Not that I’m suggesting any lawbreaking. ;-) )

See the description on the PlugShare site – sez that someone is working to get these chargepoint chargers available to public. Hope they are successful. It is very sad that there are only 2 public charging stations in all if WS, both at Walgreens.

Seeking…yes it is unfortunate that there aren’t more charging stations around WS, I’m hoping with all the new development going on near the junction that at least more stations will be installed
