PibalParticipantNew to West Seattle and we are curious what the best location(s) are to watch the Space Needle fireworks. Alki is obvious, but any particular hilltop locations that are particularly notable?
I’d ask for parking nearby too but I figure all readers would be too overcome by laughter to answer…

JanSParticipantMy first thought…Up on Queen Anne, near where Taylor Ave. and Galer Street come together…actually a block east of there and maybe 2 blocks south – lol…great view of the Space Needle :)
Here? There’s Hamilton Viewpoint at the very northend of California Ave. SW. Or go up a block west onto 44th SW, the very north end of it, sort of where it joins Sunset Ave. It’s on a hill above Hamilton Viewpoint, but there are some views of the Needle up there. The neighbors might not appreciate you parking, but if you choose to park a couple of blocks away, and walk there, what the hey…scope them out during the daytime, see if that’ll work. Oh, and take binoculars – lol…

JanSParticipantThere’s also a viewpoint on SW Admiral Way and Olga St SW…you would probably have to park and walk a couple of blocks…but that has a view of the Space Needle, too…again…check it out during the day time first You might even check out the view from the street above there.

WSBKeymasterI would guess one of the Pigeon Point north street ends (go east up Andover from Delridge and try the left turns) would be interesting, though the bridge’s proximity would make things noisy. Seacrest Pier would be my vote, if you really don’t want to leave West Seattle.
If you do … last year for the very first time, we went downtown to go see the fireworks in person, but not close enough for the mini-Times Square elbow-to-elbow situation right at Seattle Center. Parked about a half-mile south of the Needle at one of the lots along 5th, walked to a spot about a block south of the Needle that had a clear view, had a great time.
Good luck!

celeste17ParticipantUp by Mt St Vincents on 35th. One road over is 36th or 37th and Edmonds and park as close to the top of the hill as possible and either sit in your car or stand on the sidewalk. I did this for 4th of July one year and it was great. Unobstructed views. Or you could try the Admiral Viewpoint if you want some company. Welcome to West Seattle. Best place I watched it once year was from a private boat that was close enough that we could see the fireworks.

LindseyParticipantI second celeste17’s recommendation of the top of the hill near 37th and Edmonds. Excellent view of the city.

GinaParticipantAnywhere you can see the top of the Space Needle will work for viewing. You’d be surprised how many places you can see it from if you pay attention. Lots of dead ends facing east in Admiral have the view.
Jack Block Park would be a good place to view, since it is a special event the park is open until it is over.

ALSParticipantWe’re doing this Argossy cruise thing tonight, and I think they still have tickets available. It’s a little pricey, but you get 2 glasses of champagne, hors d’oeuvres and 2 DJs.

You sure about that? I emailed the Parks department about viewing the 4th of July fireworks from Jack Block Park, and they told me the park would be closed. I’m not sure why tonight would be any different.

WSBKeymasterJack Block is run by the Port of Seattle, BTW, not the city Parks Department. I’ll see if I can find anybody in their media office today to answer the question about open/closed.
(11:57 am update – I did reach someone who is checking into that for us.)

hopeyParticipantYou’re right TR, it was the Port of Seattle I emailed this summer, not City Parks. I’d love to know their official policy re: 4th of July as well!

clark5080ParticipantDown by the 13 Coins restaurant used to be great but a lot of bigger buildings going up there are starting to obstruct the view
