The average income for lower and middleclass retirees is $15,000 > $35,000 annually. This amount is an average, not what a smaller number of middleclass pensioners and those that saved most of their lives prior to retirement make.

Some pensioners actually make the same income as when they worked, if not more from raises in that pension plan. They also were able to take their healthcare benefit with them.

Does anyone in this chat have similar plans or less than this .. most unfortunately fall in the less than category.

Not many retired couples … even the upper middleclass and slightly above that class actually make $100,000 or more in retirement.

The problem seems to be lack of pensions and not willing to save enough for retirement …

The choice is not so simple .. either save early and sacrifice the lifestyle of one who deserves rewards for hard work and dedication or live the life of pleasures that your money can afford. At the same time provide your offspring with an opportunity of a higher education which you experienced or wish you had.

It is hard to accomplish both at the same time for most hard working American citizens. One of the two plans has to be sacrificed … most will choose to sacrifice the serious savings plan for the immediate gratification of a better life now, and maybe catch up on the savings plan later.
