There is a large lot adjacent to the old Nicol’s Market on SW 100th St. just west of 35th. This morning excavation started. Prior to this, there was no indication that construction was to take place. Anyone know what’s going on at that location?

A small rant:I was disappointed to see that a fairly new, nice wood fence surrounding the lot was demolished when it could easily have been re-purposed. Wantonly wasteful, as is the commonly accepted development practice of removing all trees and plants, grading the lot, and compacting/destroying the soil for decades to come.

I don’t know for a fact, but I’m pretty sure someone will be putting up 2 or 3 houses on that site. Same thing is happening on the 3700 block of 100th. So sad to see these nice big properties getting chopped up.

Any exact addresses? You can look it up here (I’d also be happy to look it up, working on the next development roundup now)…

I’m too curious to just go away and not look it up. So. There are single-family homes to be built at 3515 SW 100th and 3517 SW 100th.

And then there’s a lot split down the street at 3541:

That one says existing house will remain but the newly created lot will be 12,000-plus square feet, so that could be the future site of multiple houses …

Wow, that was quick! I don’t have any specific addresses, but 3515-3517 sounds about right. I wonder if that means Nicol’s Market will be torn down as well? There were never any signs or land-use notices on either the lot or the remaining building, so it’s all kind of a mystery.

It seems like there should be some kind of notice placed on site when these permits are issued. As it stands, neighbors may not even know a property was for sale/sold/permitted until the bulldozers show up one morning…

I don’t think Nicols is part of this. It sounds like the lot is being divided into 2 parcels and 3515 is probably in front and 3517 is directly behind it, or vice versa. That’s what is happening on the 3700 block. They added a couple new house numbers for the houses being built in back.

Gotcha. That’s already been done a short distance west on 100th, with houses (a house?) behind 37th.

I’ve always thought that location would have been perfect for a small market and/or neighborhood restaurant – or even a combo of both! Arbor Heights has no amenities at all, and with our public transportation already gutted (and about to disappear completely!), the neighborhood desperately needs something like this within walking distance.

I can’t look up the URL right now but google King County Parcel Viewer and that will give you specific addresses of specific parcels that you can cross reference in the city system.

    PC/W7/Chrome.

I did have trouble trying to log in yesterday, after the once every week auto log off happened.

Whether I tried to log in via a thread, or the topic listing page, IIRC, it would just bounce me back to wherever I had been, but still show me as being logged off.

At some point, over on the WSB Main Page, which also initially showed me as being logged off, as also always happens with the auto log off, it showed me logged in there, but was still off here, in the Forums.

I cleared cookies, cache, etc in my browser, but still couldn’t log in here.

At some point, I finally could, and as I recall, it was after doing something, (which I don’t recall) as opposed to just mysteriously working itself out.

For those who asked about development at 3531 and 3541 SW 100th Street in Arbor Heights, the owner has applied with the Seattle Planning Department to short plat the two properties into five lots (dividing 3531 into two parcels, and 3541 into three parcels), and then build houses on the lots.

The documents are online at the Department of Planning and Development. The shortened URL is http://tinyurl.com/lr9chom, then click on the Documents tab to access all the documents.

Anonyme I agree, I small market/convenience store there would be great, going all the way down to 7-11 is unnecessary traffic in the neighborhood when we could just have something right in the heart of it all!

What is the deal with Nicol’s Market? Is it a residence now? When did it stop being a market?

A sign for Powell Homes has now gone up in the razed lot next to Nicol’s Market. This is the only possible location for the two newly created addresses of 3515 and 3517 SW 100th. The Powell Homes website indicates that two monster houses of 2,400 sq. ft. each are going up on the newly split lot. Quite a crunch. These backyard blockbusters are going up everywhere.

GoGo, I don’t know what’s going on with Nicol’s Market. I quit going years ago as it was hardly ever open and there was no merchandise on the shelves. Once, a guy sitting outside in a Mercedes offered to let me in if I wanted to buy something. It all seemed very…off.

I think Nicol’s does mostly a wholesale business of mushrooms and herbs. He opened it up for retail several years ago and I used to get milk and fresh herbs there – and they were very inexpensive. I wanted to try to support the local business, but I gave up after a while because it always smelled like smoke inside.
