goodgracesParticipantOk, kinda random, I know. And maybe I’ve just been reading one too many home decorating magazines. BUT: I’ve been wanting to explore having some wood pieces painted “autobody-shop-style” (with sprayers) instead of brushes . . . apparently you can get a lovely candy-coated, thick finish not possible with traditional brush painting.
Anyone ever done this? Or willing to try? Or have suggestions on places I could take my things? I have a dresser, small wooden chest, and nightstand I’d like to “update” (ha ha) with this type of painting.
Thanks in advance!

Bikefor1MemberOn tv when decorators take things to be sprayed at auto body shops, they’re usually METAL. Like, a fridge, a stove or metal furniture.
Similarly, on tv when decorators want a nice finish on furniture, they use spray paint, going back and forth with even strokes. Wear a glove. And they sell these ‘trigger’ things that attach to spray cans so your index finger doesn’t get fatigued.

goodgracesParticipantThanks Bikefor1. I was hoping to avoid spray paint b/c I want a color I’ll probably not find in the standard 12 (or so) colors available in a can.
I wonder if or why you couldn’t take wood items to be sprayed at an auto body shop?

Bikefor1MemberCall around. You never know.
Recently I watched ‘Under the same moon’ on dvd (great movie-rent it!) and they had a featurette about the Muralists/Graffiti artists. They use a special brand of spray paint, Belton from Germany, because it comes in so many different colors. They said it costs over $70 a can. I found a link where they were only $5.95 a can: http://www.artprimo.com/catalog/about_molotow_spray_paint.php. Or you could maybe check an art store?

AnonymousInactiveTry the furniture refinishing shop on 35th, just south of Barton. It’s probably some kind of lacquer they can shoot and build up with multiple coats to get the finish you’re looking for.
Your furniture will look like Uncle Gary’s gold van if you use Krylon.
