Help! I have an old 1947 or 1949 Wedgewood stove and the stove top works, but the oven pilot light is not on and I can’t figure it out. It smells like the gas in our house, which I’d rather not have. I’ve tried to find a Seattle area person who can come look into this, but haven’t had any luck. Do you know anyone that will come look at this? Thanks!

I, too, have an antique Wedgewood stove (estate model). I have had someone come out and fix it–I will look it up when I’m home and post it.

One thing you might check for, though, is an override button. On mine it’s under the metal plates that cover the stove top–I just lift those off and all the gas piping is exposed. Yours might be underneath or on the back–it would be between the gas pipe in the wall and where the the gas pipe enters the stove. It’s a little unit with a red button. If the pilot light on your oven blows out, then this shuts off the gas to the oven. If you have this unit, try pushing the red button and relighting the pilot light. If you don’t have this, get one installed!

Also, I would shut off the gas to the stove until you get it fixed.
