JoBParticipantWhat i think is sad is that a reward that large is required to induce people to turn in this kind of cruelty.

DBPMemberPersonally, I would like to see more money devoted to education around issues of animal neglect and cruelty. The $2500 reward money would have gone further if spent on that, I think.
I see lots of adoption events around town, but I see relatively little information on spay/neuter, animal hoarding, irresponsible breeding, etc. And when it comes to cruelty issues, I’ve learned more about those from some of PETA’s stunts than I have from the Humane Society, PAWS, and ASPCA combined.
National animal welfare groups should be spending more of their donor dollars on public service announcements, in-school programs, and workshops. That there are still so many people out there who don’t even get the importance of spay/neuter is shameful.

LenaParticipantIt is true, education can go a very long way teaching about some of the animal issues that many are not aware of. There is some education out there, when I was at the humane society we had someone who would go out to schools and teach children. I know the humane society has ads out there. But it is really not enough and not far enough reaching.
We really need more education in the form of popular culture as well, books, TV shows, movies, etc. It sounds odd but those media reach a lot of people and can make a difference. And we need more people that connect with children early in the schools and outside of them.
I recently wrote a children’s story that I just put up on my blog. I hope that one day I can use it as part of a way to educate children on such issues as you mention. I know I have a ways to go but if we all can get involved in some small way it can make a difference.

There are many on this blog that work with animals and educate the people they touch daily. It takes many.
We are all that somebody.

furryfacesParticipantSpot on Lena.
There are many humane education resources available for schools…it is possible folks just don’t know where to go to find these resources. Furry Faces does not know how these resources are marketed. For those that are interested, Seattle Animal Shelter does have a humane education program and we believe you can contact them to find out more.
Also, most animal rescue and advocacy groups are providing humane education; info on spay/neuter; etc., whenever we are at an outreach event; on our Facebook and website; during one on one conversations with people we meet; and of course here on the blog.
Lastly, anyone can advocate for humane treatment of animals (and people). You do not have to be connected to official group. There are many, many resources available to learn more, and if anyone is interested, please email us and we will provide you with some of those resources.
Cheers, Furry Faces,
