My friend’s dog just got injured at Marymoor (in Redmond) and it reminded me I don’t really know my options for 24 hour emergency care near home.

I’ll be switching from VCA to Lien Animal Clinic I think as well – since Dr. Keist is gone! But it doesn’t look like they have 24 hour services…

Well, I hope you never need it, but the 5 Corners VCA in Burien is 24 hours and they did a fantastic job stabilizing my babydoll overnight until I could get him into emergency surgury. He was hurt bad enough that he needed to go to a specialist, anything less traumatic they could have taken care of there.

They also made sure I was ok, which in retrospect, was not only kind, but neccessary. I was in mild shock myself.

It’s a straight shot down 509 to the Trader Joe’s exit then a couple blocks North on 1st.

I like the 5 Corners for emergencies better than the Emerald Clinic on Stone Way in Wallingford, althought that is the only other 24 hour care facility that I know of in this area.

I have to rave about my vet’s office – Burien Veterinary Hospital. They don’t offer 24 hour emergency care, but the whole staff is amazing.

I’m forever grateful to the Emerald Clinic for saving my kitty after a horrendous dog attack. I’ve heard good things about the people at 5 corners as well.

Lien is great!! They took care of my chocolate scarfing dog initially and then called ahead to VCA in Burien for me when their closing time was approaching and he needed more attention. VCA was quick and competent and both places called the next day to check up on our dog.

You may also want to contact Jeff Parke, DVM. He’s not based in West Seattle, but he does house calls and will work with your regular vet (for example, obtaining file and lab info, but allowing you the option of euthanizing a pet at home instead of in a clinic).

He sees our pets once or twice a year as needed, and we called him in when it was time to have the cat euthanized and cremated (and scatted in an apple orchard).

Lien does have someone on-call at least some of the off-hours. We dealt with a chocolate incident over the phone one time, didn’t need to go to an emergency facility. (Stupid dogs!)(and stupid us who leave chocolate around, sigh)

I prefer ACCESS on lake city and 115th for emergency care. http://www.criticalcarevets.com/ That is if they can make it the twenty five minute drive. If they can’t, Five Corners is the place to go. My dog bloated a couple years ago and needed emergency surgery-which I wasn’t going to do myself. They were absolutely excellent and I got to see everyone at work in back. Jeff Parke is also excellent for house calls. Many of my clients have used him for euthanasias. I have worked for Lien or at Lien on and off for most of my veterinary career and I haven’t found a better clinic in the city. I spend a couple years doing relief vet work and got to work in many wonderful clinics but no other one compares.

Our pets are often our children; or a close facsimilie. Probably for every song of praise you will read, you will conversely read about a bad experience. When we are in a traumatic situation we (including myself) are probably not very good judges of what’s good or bad service; and of course there will be exceptions to what I just said. We have had to use Five Corners once and had some unpleasant memories of the way we were treated. Wearing other lenses, were those really gross errors? Not sure. I would tend to shy away from a vet/emergency service if I only read bad reviews; but with Five Corners being the closest, I would likely go there first. I love Lien; and prior to going there have gone for years to Burien Vet. Hosp. But at 9:00 p.m. on a Saturday night they are not available and I am thankful for Five Corners.

I switched from West Seattle VCA to Lien as well. I am going to post a rave about Lien soon, they were they during my “big” dog’s final moments and were nothing but wonderful.

As for after care… I have used ACCES on Lake City Way for a minor emergency: 11536 Lake City Way NE

    They were great.

Several years ago my JRT was attacked by a loose aggressive Pitt at Marymoor. I rushed him to VCA Veterinary Specialty Center in Lynnwood. They were great, and saved his live, but did require a 5K hold on my credit card. They saved his life though… so well worth it.

Wonderful. Will transfer over our records to Lien for routine visits, keep 5 corners info for emergencies (…and keep Jeff Parke’s info for any future in-home euthanasia needs). THANKS!

I believe Lien also does in home euthanasia. My friend had them come to her house a few years ago to put down her much loved older dog.

We used 5 Corners in Burien also when our dog needed urgent surgery from a stomach/intestinal blockage and they were wonderful & their expert care saved her life. Our lab had eaten enough grass to form a solid mass the size of a bowling ball…not good. Also, not in West Seattle, but all the vets at Elliott Bay Animal Hospital are outstanding.

I also must rave about ACCESS on Lake City Way at 115th. All the way across town, but if you can make it there, they are the best! They are fully staffed 24 hours a day, full lab, surgery facility and much more. They do “rounds” like a people hospital and you can call the vets anytime to track the progress of your hospitalized animal. They were fantastic with my really sick kitty a few years back.

We went to 5 corners for a while-we have 2 dogs and 2 cats. But in the past couple years things have gone south there-on different occasions they lost test results, forgot to call with results (and return calls), told me the doctor was out of town and I would have to wait a week or so for results (when cat was very ill and peeing everywhere), and the really fun one was when they told us that one dog had giardia but were quite sure the other didn’t, then after 3 rounds of treatment realized that they had misplaced the other dog’s results and he did indeed have giardia and was reinfecting the other one the whole time. It then took a couple pissed off phone calls and an email to the head office to get the next round of treatment for both dogs for free and some reimbursement for all the medicine and testing. And the saddest part is we got off easy. Our friends took their dog there after it was hit by a car. They kept telling the vet the dog had lost a great deal of blood, but the vet insisted the dog was fine-the dog didn’t make it through the night.

The only way I would go back is if it was the middle of the night and my pet was so critical that I couldn’t make it to the clinic on Stone Way. And then I would watch everything they did and not let my pet out of sight.

We now go to the Burien Vet Hospital and are very happy with them.
