Drug and alcohol treatment is woefully unavailable, oft times ineffective (dual diagnosis: why are they self medicating?) and well…but as you noted, they aren’t the only ones homeless, or near it.

It’s kind of ironic, this conversation, as my last paper for school this semester is on the psychology of morality…and I posit that empathy is the keystone of morality. Without it, we are merely afraid: we only do the right thing because god, parents, the police…someone will punish us.

(But why empathy and conscience? Psychology still hasn’t an answer.)
