West Seattle bicyclist shot on Delridge

Peter McKay tells the frightening story on his blog. His account doesn’t mention West Seattle or the shooting location, nor was there a 911 call about an assault with weapons (apparently medics were called to his home), so this didn’t hit our radar till the P-I just posted about it, saying it happened on Delridge near Barton this past Thursday night.

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve had things (bottles, sticks, etc.) thrown at me while riding my bicycle. Last year while riding along Beach Drive some yahoos were shooting bottle rockets at peds and whomever they drove by, luckily they missed me that time. I’ve seriously thought of packing heat just for my own safety when riding.
I remember once about a decade ago I was riding on the shoulder of Pac Hwy south in Federal Way when this guy tried to run me over. I was so incensed my adrenaline carried me up the next hill where I caught him…but luckily by then I came to my senses and didn’t do anything except to glare at him.

Erik, I appreciate the sentiment. WRT ‘packing heat’ – I strongly encourage you not to simply because I doubt it would amount to the protection you are looking for and would more likely be used to escalate…
The problem with these cyclist attacks is that we are riding along and don’t see them coming. :(

Sorry, comment time is over.
