UPDATE: Big SFD callout in The Junction = gas-line break

(Added: WSB photos)

12:08 PM: All those sirens were for a gas-leak callout at Rutan/Edmunds [map]. Most units, though, are being dismissed.

12:46 PM: SFD crews still at the scene told us it was caused by the crew doing road work on 44th near Edmunds. No injuries. They’re getting ready to close out the response and leave.

Close to where street work is being done?

Apparently. We were out of position to go immediately but we’re heading over now to see.

        They evacuated True Value.

Exactly where the work being done is. Have everyone back about half a block.

Wow! We’re on the patio 40 feet away. Didn’t notice more noise and disruption than usual in our not-so-sheltered neighborhood. Who knew? The place could blow up and we’d call it just another Saturday. Sirens, buses, trucks are our ambient noise now.

This is the third road construction gas leak in the last few weeks. Makes you wonder what coordination or site plans go into making sure what is below when they start digging in our streets. This could turn ugly quickly if somebody isn’t careful.
