12:50 AM: SFD has sent one engine to a crash reported at Orchard/Dumar, just off Delridge. According to a tipster and police radio, it involves a flipped car, in the shrubbery by the Shell station. That’s the only vehicle reported involved. One person is reported to be hurt.
2:16 PM: SPD is investigating this as possible DUI. A 24-year-old man was arrested and booked into the King County Jail, according to online records.
I think that WSB should start a section specifically for flipped cars. It seems like this is a weekly occurrence. I wonder if it is the design of cars today or just the way that people drive that causes so many of these type accidents? I don’t remember this happening much in the 50’s – 60’s – 70’s…
How can this be so hard to understand? In this city, generally speaking what is the proximity of moving cars to parked cars? On Delridge its about 1-3ft, whereas residential streets often have less room, wide enough for one car. A car going 5mph has enough torque and momentum, to literally “drive” up the side of a parked car and consequently flip over. Speed is not a factor, having so little room for error plus drivers who pay zero attention is.
It’s because they don’t teach people how to drive anymore. That, and people are playing on their phones.
Will have to wait for the full SPD report, tho I don’t want to assume, I’m starting to suspect they were in haste to appease The Knights of Ni.
I saw the sidewalk of this site today out on a jog. There is broken car debris, jumper cables and other garbage. The car flipped by hitting the curb maybe.
Glad he was not hurt enough to get arrested and booked in jail. But…shouldn’t this be a sign we should narrow delridge way sw to curb speeding drivers?
Update* the Seattle City attorney’s office is not pressing charges. A DUI was not involved
