TRAFFIC ALERT: Tree blocking California Way

If you need to get between Admiral and Alki, you’ll have to find a route other than California Way [map] until that tree’s cleared. The photo came in via text right after we heard the blockage mentioned on police radio; the texter had just called it in. This is a relatively common spot for tree trouble, even without wind (that’s still hours away).

Appreciation to the guy waving the flashlight – assuming the texter – who  stopped us from hitting the downed tree with our car in the dark. Good Samaritan was running up and down the hill stopping cars in both directions. Thanks, neighbor!

The lights out again along that road?  That’s so dangerous, so many times they’ve been out and it’s pitch black in an area that’s already dangerous when people are going too fast.  As a driver, pedestrian and cyclist along that road, it’s always been a big issue that never gets enough treatment to fix.  They also need to figure out which trees are likely to fall like this one and reinforce the ground and cut down those that are in danger of falling.

Amazing! I needed to hear some good, after reading through some of the more heartbreaking news stories of the day. Hats off to your neighbor! How tremendous of them.

I’ve been in contact with Seattle City Light and was informed that they needed a permit to fix the problem with the street lights.  The permit was asked for on the 14th of Nov. but nothing happening yet.  It’s a real safety issue, dark, narrow road to say nothing about the trees hanging over the roadway.  My next step is to contact our city councilwoman.

Sorry, comment time is over.
