3:59 PM: Big response for a fire call at the commercial building at 5214 Delridge Way SW. More to come; we’re en route.

4:12 PM: Sorry for the site slowness these past few minutes. Meantime, our crew has arrived. Firefighters found light smoke in the building and a “small heat signature on the roof” but were trying to track down the source. This building is home to the Daily Dose coffee shop and at least one other small business. No word of injuries. The response is scaling back but for now, Delridge is blocked between Brandon and Hudson.

4:16 PM: What happened seemed to be in the yoga/massage side of the building, something involving scented oils that could be smelled from outside the building. It’s out. Police are letting Metro through on Delridge but otherwise, it might be another 15 minutes or so before it’s clear enough that they can get other vehicles back onto the road.

5:21 PM: Just came back to check. SFD is gone; Delridge is fully open.

From my vantage point next door I saw firefighters bringing out some burning materials from one of the residences in the back of the building.

Why is KIRO reporting it as a major fire? Is there a lot of smoke?

No, there’s not. It was a large *callout*. It is SOP for Seattle Fire to send a large *callout* when there’s a possible fire in a house, apartment building, commercial building. So they did. But it was a very small fire and it’s long since out. My photographer’s back and we’re adding photos shortly. – TR

*Added – Only one photo. You can’t even tell from outside that anything happened.

It seemed major, based on all the firetrucks going up delridge, so i detoured at 4 pm,  not knowing what the situation actually was.

KIRO didn’t report the fire at all. I would know because I work there and was listening to the scanner.

Sorry, meant to say KIRO radio. They’ve reported it 3 or 4 times as a major fire and told people to reroute.

I hope they have long since stopped mentioning that because the road’s been clear for more than an hour (I updated above after going back to look, and I’m sure it had cleared some time before then).

I live at 26th and Hudson and traffic is nuts on our little street.    Please remember that people and their pets live here and be patient!

    – Yoga/massage business is no longer there (I think she moved out today)

    – the apartments out back are not up to code, though fortunately it appears this incident is unrelated. This time.

    – the property was recently purchased. Likely for cash as bank wouldn’t approve loans of any type with the condition it is in until serious issues rectified

    – the coffee shop “Daily Dose” was closed during the incident, which occurred after the owners normal business hours. She is a long-term tenant and not property owner.

Sorry, comment time is over.
