VIDEO: Biggest turnout yet for annual Denny-Lincoln Bike Classic

If you saw a big group of bicycle riders this past hour or so in Westwood or Fauntleroy – this is probably who you saw: The Denny-Lincoln Bicycle Classic‘s almost 50 riders. Biggest group yet, the ride leaders announced as they gave everyone a big round of safety reminders before taking off from the path on the north side of Denny International Middle School (2601 SW Kenyon).

After heading out on the western path through the Denny-Sealth campus, they mustered on 26th SW, bound for SW Thistle. This, by the way, is the third annual Denny-Lincoln ride – so named because the destination is Lincoln Park, where the group planned a lunchtime barbecue.

This year was so awesome! One reason why the participation was higher this year was because students were able to check out bikes that the school has for their after school bike club. Students who did not have access to a bike of their own were able to ride with the group. There were about 10 bikes that were lent out. Helmets that were purchased with a grant were given to kids that needed them. We also had Brad from the West Seattle Cyclery in the morning who made sure all bikes were in safe condition. Rain City West made the T-Shirts that were designed by a hand full of art students at Denny. Will King met us for a BBQ at the end and we had a prize wheel that was made with an old bicycle wheel. The prizes were given in a reusable bag donated by Accell North America. Special thanks to: Mr. Evans, Mrs. Evans, Mr. Chase, Mr. King (and family), Al, Mary, Noel and Todd, Brad at West Seattle Cyclery, Evan Moss, Rain City West, my husband Jason and everyone that rode with us!

Sorry, comment time is over.
