Summer will return! ‘Spice World’ at West Seattle Outdoor Movies this Saturday

Last Saturday, this year’s West Seattle Outdoor Movies series opened with drizzle/mist as the audience watched Sandra Bullock in space (above, a preshow photo as the crowd started to gather). Today, a midsummer deluge. But THIS Saturday – clear skies and warm temperatures are promised. So plan to set up your chair/blanket in the Hotwire Online Coffeehouse (4410 California SW; WSB sponsor) courtyard for “Spice World”:

Movie’s free – as are a fashion show and photo booth! Bring money for concessions and raffles to benefit local nonprofits (and Hotwire is open pre-show, with espresso beverages, smoothies, and more). Gates open at 6:30, movie at dusk (9-ish).

NOOOOOOOOOO! I can’t believe I’m gonna be out of town for this. Spice World is an existential masterpiece.

Are you serious? The spice girls movie? Why don’t they just regurgitate “reality shows” on the big screen so families can re-live all the real life things that happen to people constantly followed around by cameras? What happened to MOVIES? FILMS? You know, an art form expressed through the medium of film. I have a few ideas. How about anything from Terry Gilliam? The Adventures of Baron Munchausen? How about Children of Men? Why not North by Northwest? Why not the original M*A*S*H movie? Oh no! Couldn’t have a film that might make anyone use a brain cell! “How about that psychological thriller called…The Spice Girl’s Movie?”

“Really?” – the series is meant to be fun escapist entertainment, and has always been. (Certainly “fun” is in the eyes of the beholder …) The Spice Girls’ movie apparently has some “cult” cred these days. But starting a serious film series for West Seattle is an awesome idea if you’d like to launch it! Maybe even South Seattle College would consider hosting it. There are also other film series such as “Meaningful Movies” – here’s what that series is showing next month. http://westseattlemeaningfulmovies.org – TR

Saw this movie when it came out with my duaghter who is now 25! – it is a campy movie about the Spice Girls – and yes it is not Oscar worthy – but should it be? NO it is a movie about the Spice Girls – so come to the movie night, donate to charity and have a good time!

Every spring we ask the readers, both on this site as well as on social media, what movies they’d like to see. Each movie in this year’s selections got multiple votes. So my advice to you Really? is to keep an eye out and vote next year.

I’ll bet the “I can’t believe they are showing this” crowd is a real blast to hang out with.

“Really?”, I need a little help here. I’m not seeing the user name you are using in your comment above, nor am I seeing any of the suggestions you made above, in the article from early May, asking for suggestions for this year’s line-up:

    https://westseattleblog.com/2014/05/west-seattle-outdoor-movies-2014-ready-for-your-suggestions/

    .

    Am I missing something here?
