West Seattle (and vicinity) traffic alert: Crash on northbound 99

3:05 PM: If you are headed downtown – we’d suggest avoiding northbound 99 for a while. There’s a “heavy rescue” response on NB 99 at the Battery Street Tunnel – and we’re seeing backups on the cameras on our Traffic page.

4:09 PM: Traffic is moving again on NB 99, according to a commenter. Here’s some preliminary information from police about what happened.

Yep, all lanes at a standstill northbound past Spokane street. Helicopters flying above.

I can see looking thru binoculars from Harbor Ave. that the viaduct is totally at a stand still. (3:45pm).

looks like there’s also an accident on WB WSB, some emergency vehicles parked right near the curve where it turns up to go by the sculpture.
(or it could be EB, can’t tell from my view- maybe the people slowing WB are just looky-loos)

Just published a separate story about that. Supposedly eastbound – unless it’s changed since I last checked.

It is eastbound. Parallel with Nucor so likely “only” affecting the Fauntleroy entrance.

    NB 99 moving again.

How do people flip their cars so easily in that tunnel? Seems like a pretty regular occurrence. He was in the right lane with his wheels to the wall…

Sorry, comment time is over.
