West Seattle power outage: 1,000+; High Point, Gatewood, Morgan again, but much shorter this time

4:28 AM: Another power outage in High Point (thanks to the two residents who just texted us). Not sure how long ago it started, but it’s just appeared on the Seattle City Light map; about 1,000 homes/businesses (aka “customers”) affected. Parts of Gatewood and Morgan Junction are involved again this time too. A similar, though larger (3,200+ customers) area lost power on Wednesday morning; some were out for up to two hours.

4:43 AM: We’re getting reports the power is back, at least for some. Not yet reflected on the SCL map.

5:02 AM: The map now shows the outage over. Since much if not all of the same area was part of the Wednesday morning outage, we’ll follow up with City Light later this morning.

Just when i was starting to get annoyed at losing power twice in a week in came back on.

What the hell is going on?! This is really annoying. We are at 44th and Juneau and our power just came back on. No idea how long it was out this time.

It’s interesting that we are not on the map this time nor earlier in the week but we lost power both times.

The last three times we lost power (the first being a couple of months ago) the problem has been at 39th and Warsaw, where the overhead lines drop down into an underground vault.

Followup to my last post: Going out to my car this morning, I noticed a red light flashing at the top of that pole — just like the last two times the power went out.

Our power was out once again last night too here on the 6500 block of California Ave SW. Not sure what the cause of this power outage yet it is getting old.

We are north of Graham and west of Fauntleroy. Map doesn’t have us, but we lost power for about an hour both times.

My college son is looking into a battery-backup alarm. Two mornings late to work do not a happy employer make ;-)

You will start seeing more of these type of issues and same thing with water supply as are infustructure is getting old. The city has been doing a lot of temporary type fixes, like the road patches that wash out when it rains. The power issue is probably a inground vault problem under maintained.
