Traffic update: Eastbound crash on the bridge now cleared

6:39 PM: A crash that involves several cars is backing up traffic on the bridge. It’s reported on the Spokane St. Viaduct near the 4th Ave exit and one tipster says traffic is being detoured at 1st.

7:46 PM UPDATE: Multiple commenters say the scene is cleared, and the bridge cams seem to bear that out. (Thanks to everyone who e-mailed and texted about this.)

I was trying to get to Green Lake. I got off at 1st and ended up going back home. The whole trip took me an hour.

Admiral way entrance ramp to WSB currently blocked by a police car. Everyone’s being diverted to the lower bridge. Be safe out there!

It’s all open now but still slow, should be getting better. What time for the viaduct to be closed.

It took me 45 minutes to drive 5 miles as well as having to squeeze over to let emergency vehicles pass. Got diverted at 1st and went up to the 5. That took another 15 minutes.

The traffic cams don’t show any problems, but posts here and the real-time traffic on Google maps make it look awful. I don’t get it. I have to get the U District for a 9:30 SIFF screening and am confused.

MM, I believe it’s now cleared. We just came back the other way but I couldn’t see for sure firsthand – we couldn’t get to I-5 and had to take 1st Ave So. The fire units cleared the crash scene early – indicating no serious injuries – but the messages kept coming in about backups and diversions, which appear to be over now. – TR

Believe your google maps! Take a different route.

I don’t know where the Google Maps get info, but the city map with live travel times – the same ones from the boards around the area – is here:
