Next round of wayfinding kiosks: Help plan Admiral!

First came Fauntleroy – next, Admiral and Alki are on deck for the West Seattle Trails Wayfinding and Kiosks project, which includes a $100,000 city grant. The first meeting to plan Admiral kiosks (similar to the one shown in a Feet First website photo at left, the pilot kiosk on Delridge) is scheduled for tomorrow – here’s the announcement from Chas Redmond:

The first of several planning meetings to help determine the location, content, and art for wayfinding kiosks to be installed in the Admiral neighborhood area will take place this Friday, November 20, at the West Seattle (Admiral) Library from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

This meeting and others to follow will allow residents and other interested individuals to help define and create the content and art for two six-foot high, three-feet wide wayfinding kiosks which will be part of a West Seattle-wide wayfinding system.

The system already has three kiosks in various stages of development in the Fauntleroy area. The two Admiral kiosks will also be joined by three Alki-area kiosks. These five kiosks are part of the West Seattle Trails Wayfinding and Kiosk project which previously produced the West Seattle Trails map.

Not to be negative, but since I have a day job, a meeting at 4:00 to 6:00 on Friday is a bit of a non-starter. Can these meetings be scheduled for time a bit more convenient for a wage-slave?
.
I like the idea, and have experience in the local area but would have a hard time contributing anything until after 6 most nights.

Scheduling a Friday afternoon meeting seeking community input on how to spend six figure sum of public dollars? That may be an honest mistake, but has the appearence of being disingenuous to the primary purpose.

To public-admin’s points: I’ve been to enough meetings about these projects just to throw in a few more details: This is a matching-fund grant, so an equal amount of $ and labor is being invested by the community. Most of the project already is settled but this is a chance to get involved with some of the fine points. Regarding the time frame, certainly that’s good feedback for organizers … although I can tell you, I have been to a slew of 7 pm meetings lately that still draw a bare handful (like the Design Review meeting I’m just back from, wish more of the folks who had commented on it here had shown up to participate in person, because that’s the official feedback that counts). Anyway, they may have e-mail methods for commenting too … I will leaf through all the various e-mails and docs I have … TR
