West Seattle barista Blayne on “Project Runway”: Week 4 results

Team WSB watched tonight’s “Project Runway episode with a spirited crowd – biggest since the premiere night – at Ginomai, where the air conditioning was heavenly and so was the potluck dessert selection – read on to see how Blayne did and what his Hotwire Coffee (WSB sponsor) boss Lora Lewis says about it:

To recap if you’re just joining us, Hotwire barista Blayne Walsh (shown above, at the shop 2 weeks ago) is a contender on season five of “Project Runway,” the reality show about fashion design.

This week had extra Seattle flair – Olympic star Apolo Ohno appeared as a guest judge; the entire show had an Olympic theme, tying in with the start of the Summer Games later this week: The designers were asked to come up with their idea of what a female athlete representing the USA might wear to the Opening Ceremonies.

The online photo gallery for tonight’s episode barely shows Blayne, but he had numerous moments during the hourlong show on TV. Lots of comic relief, some of it focusing on his professed love of tanning: “I’m going for the gold in tanning – though the medals stop at bronze.” (Bahda-bing.)

This week, like last week, he finished in the middle – not in the top three, not in the bottom three – so he’s back next week, which means another Ginomai party. You can see a photo of his design in this blogpost (scroll down to #12). We asked Lora afterward for her thoughts on how Week 4 went for Blayne:

Next week – according to the preview over the closing credits – Blayne and the remaining contenders have to design something for Brooke Shields, who’s certainly had interesting fashion moments in her career. If you didn’t watch tonight but want to see what all the fuss is about, here’s the Bravo schedule (this episode will be rerun more than a few times before next week). Meantime, the next episode’s at 9 pm next Wednesday; doors open at Ginomai (southwest corner of 42nd/Genesee) at 8 pm – the community room is down the hall – the building has its own (free!) parking lot, best accessed from 42nd on the building’s south side.

I am SO sad that Blayne was booted off the show! I wanted to cry, because not only is he my favorite designer but he also lives in my city! and not to sound stalker-ish but I want to meet him SO bad!!! Maybe I will one day.

    Love you Blayne!!!
