Mayor to unveil proposed “multifamily code” changes tomorrow

How will city leaders change the “multifamily code” (zoning for townhouses, apartments, etc.)? The long-awaited proposal from the mayor’s office goes public tomorrow afternoon — first step in the next stage of the process, which then will involve public comment including City Council hearings. We’ll be there to cover the announcement. (Some of what it might include was previewed during a city Planning Commission member’s presentation in the “Townhouses: Can the Patient Be Saved?” forum we covered here a month ago.) City background on the issue can be found here.

Do we know what this means for Alki?

Hopefully no hotels or major businesses that the streets and infrastructure can’t handle…

    I’m worried about this one.

I’m fiercely pro-density, we didn’t leave the hill fleeing the crowds, it was the pricing we couldn’t take. But I’ve been disappointed with what’s happening in the areas outside the Junction. As we get more density, we’re not seeing supporting businesses to make those neighborhoods thrive, we’re just seeing more density. The kind we’re getting means more parking, more cars, more traffic, but not more livable neighborhoods. So far. I’m hoping the Council is considering that as they develop their “plan.”
